I've tried to mount the S9 under the dash with a mounting bracket, it was one of the cheap black bracket that looks kinda flimsy, an it just wasn't sturdy enough for me. So, now I've got this floor mount that mounts on top of the tranny hump right beside of the 4wd shifter, (pic 1). I've got the cheap black bracket and a monster type bracket, (pic's 2 & 3), to mount on top of the floor mount. My truck has carpet and I was wondering how or what would be the best way to firmly mount this type of mount. I thought about using Velcro or would screws be better, if so how's the best best way to get the screws through?

I would prefer the first mount and the best way to secure the mount is bolting it directly through the transmission hump, position the mount where you'd like is and with a felt marker mark the bolt hole locations.

Then with a sharp knife or carpet knife carefully cut an X shaped hole large enough for the size drill bit required for the bolt hole you need, the purpose for the X shaped cut is to allow for the drill bit to turn without having the carpet twist around the bit while drilling, been there done that and it's not a pretty site.

When you have your holes drilled, oh and if you prefer you can use self tapping screws and the drilling procedure is the same but if you use nuts and bolts then you may need someone to hold a wrench for you on the underside while tightening.

Take care not to drill through anything important like your transmission.lol so take time to check out the underside before drilling.

Have fun with your install.

I'm going to use the first mount. I'm not sure which bracket I'm gonna use yet, either the cheap black flimsy looking one or the second pic bracket.

Thanks for your input, any and all help is greatly appreciated!

I'm a bit chicken to cut into virgin steel on my '08 Honda CR-V. So I bought the "Sawtooth Mount". It is really cheap in price and construction, but is very effective if you have a flat floor space - as many FWD cars have. Cost was about $12 including the shipping from eBay.

If you have to hit the brakes hard and fast; well - that is another story. The sawtooth edge keeps in place and is easy to see the radio's front panel. But I keep a black towel around the base and put it on to cover it up at night. Against a black carpet - this works well.

I've got a set of those, but I was afraid it would head over on it's side into the floor or something to that nature while I was driving maybe causing an accident. I'll think I'll just use the floor mount and screw it down with self tapping screws that way I'll be sure it won't head over.

Thanks anyway,
Chris

Don't know if this goes here or not, but here goes. I got a magnet mount, like the one used for an Wilson 5000, with a RM Z-180 screwed on to the base. With the antenna in the center of my extended cab Silverado and the ant. coax stretch out, I put it on my MFJ-259B SWR Analyzer, tuned it to 27.185 and the meter said that I had a 1.5 reading. After I ran the coax, keeping it nice and neat and tucked out of the way, I put my meter back on it and it said I had a 1.6 reading. So I hooked up my Magnum S9, plugged it into the cig. lighter, turned it on and the swr light started blinking the moment that I keyed down the mic. OK, so what did I do wrong and how do I fix the problem?
