My Beloved 2950 DX crapped out on me.

Remember that super fine 2950DX I got from 8541 Electronics? Well, it started cutting in and out (breaking up) or gradually fading on transmit (both symptoms were reported by on air reports and my meter showed it as well). Receives fine.

Sent it back to 8541 to be repaired, but get this - they don't do warranty work, and if I send it to RCI for the FREE warranty work, I was told they will unconvert it (11 meter) and return the radio to the factory tune ie "10 meter factory specs".

I feel screwed.

The 8541 tune is the bomb, but I hate paying to repair a 3 month old radio I paid over $300 for.

The SWR was real low, I just crapped out for no reason. Any ideas as to why?

Just damn......

In the mean time, that Grant XL I bought from Justin Depolis is flat kicking azz.......SCHWING!!!!

Geezz Lazybones, sorry to hear the bad news.
But don't feel bad, I just sent one of mine off to be repaired also.

This is the first radio out of 9 of the 2900's that I have had any problems with, so I can't complain one bit.

It's just all that "dxing" that your doing....ha ha!

Call Ranger and double check. I had to send mine back for warranty work. They asked me where I bought it etc... I told them that I had the eKey installed, they told me that they would not remove it, and they didn't. If you don't get an answer from them that you like, just unplug it before you ship it. Mine later lost audio on AM AFTER the warranty period, so in some respects you got lucky. :)

Thanks for the replies.

For the record - I sent the radio and mic to 8541 Electronics to get a check up.

As I was packing it I had a suspicion it was the mic. So I sent the mic too. And it was, it was the PTT switch. Sometimes it would break up and sometimes fade out, only if pushed all the way in.

8541 repaired the mic and sent it back, no charge but the shiping.

I am a dummy - and 8541 has excellent customer service.

Back to the bushes for me.
