My MOBILE

Back before I was an extree class CB'er, I used to run a 96" copper in FRP whip on TOP of my Oldsmobile.

I was ba-doinkin' into everything.

I had a BB3 Screwdriver antenna mounted the same way on my Chev truck for a short while. I moved it after I got my Smacked All Stop Lights award!
I later mounted it in the rear corner of the bed down low on the drivers side.
I also trimmed a Fiberglas whip down so it would cover from about 28.5 down through the 75 meter phone band okay. Without trimming it, it was too long with the screwdriver portion completely lowered for 10 meters and I don't care about 80 CW when mobile.

looks like 1 of those big truck pipes on a diesel pickup but on wrong side. are you sure that chebbie can pull that big ol pole?

NOPE!!!!...special order 327 ported FI/V8...with 6 speed/ Ovr Drv manual/auto shift tranney:whistle::D2:73 road gears
Avg. 24mpg Hi-way@75 mph(about 1850 rpm):whistle:...20-21mpg in-town

Same MPG as my 305HP/555TQ 9,000-lb solo, (loaded to within 40-lbs at all four corners) NV-5600 2WD Cummins Dodge (except I run slower to achieve it).

The learning curve to getting the Town MPG to within 10-12% of Highway MPG was the same mindset as with antenna work.

Highway Problem: Aero Resistance
Town Problem: Rolling Resistance
Remaining Difference: Time at Cruise (RPM + Gear).

Solution: Eliminate cold starts, combine ALL errands into one trip, and, never stop, never idle.
The bad-ass route plan is the winner (90% of Americans go to 90% of the same places 90% of the time. Use that).

A pickup spec’d the way you want it is a fine thing. Finding out what it can do — remove operator error/interference — is a blast.

Received a used No.730 Greenlee Radio Chassis Punch as I was leaving town. Will get that antenna up before long. Just can’t talk myself into running the exhaust pipe up thru the bed to use as antenna mount. Good luck with that (smilin’ emoji).
