My new 8 element 2 meter quad.

I'm very happy with the construction. Looks to be made very well and should withstand some punishment. It went together quick and easy. SWR is 1:2.1 in the center and less than 1:5.1 at both edges. I like the rectangular fiberglass boom.

I have it vertical for now. There's a group of guys that my friend talks to each night on simplex. I can hear him, but none of the others. I can only hear a little static, but I'm confident I'll be able to work them.

The way this will be tripod mounted on my house, I'll have easy access to it from a ladder on my bathroom roof. Should only take 30 minutes to swap it out to horizontal, or erect a different antenna. I've also thought about making a plate that will allow me to switch back and forth H/V. Seen a YouTube video where a dude did that with his quad.

My grid is EM89
I dont know what you were running before but if it's an omni you should definitely see a big improvement and hopefully have no trouble working your friends on simplex.

I think I still need a couple grids in Ohio on 2m. Whenever I finally get off the road from working I will have to check my map and see if I have EM89.. think I do??

That thing is a work of art. Now stop posting and get to work with that bad boy.

I have it assembled, mounted on mast with rotor assembly. I have a 7' coax stub all connected and sealed. It's all ready to slide down into my tripod. My friend says he might get me within next few days. I'm helping him roof his mom's house, then we'll tackle the tripod. We're both old and slow.

Get an old U-100 or U-11o rotator and mount the boom thru where the mast usually goes and use it to rotate the boom giving you either polarity bu rotating the boom 90 degrees.
