Toyota that is. :D I have been thinking about a new vehicle for sometime now but could not decide to do it now or wait until spring. I needed something bigger than my Ford escape to haul the tent trailer and even though it was a V6 it sucked on the hills hauling almost it's own weight behind it. I had originally wanted to buy a Toyota FJ Cruiser but after talking to some folks and while taking a closer look at one on the lot I found this Tundra. It was the only one of it's kind on the dealer's lot and it really caught my eye. It is a 2012 Tundra SR5 CrewMax cab design with the 4x4 TRD off road package and 5.7 liter engine. The CrewMax cab actually has 2 inches MORE legroom in the back than in the front when the reclining rear seats are pushed all the way back. This thing flies and I have to be carefull pulling away from a stop sign as I am not used to having 381 hp under the hood. It a big step up from the 200 hp Escape. It is pretty much loaded with a power moon roof, power vertically sliding rear window, complete tow package including extendable heated power mirrors which have two separate mirrors each so you can keep an eye on the traffic as well as the trailer behind you. It is prewired with 4 pin and 7 pin trailer harnesses and is prewired for a brake controller so all I have to do is mount it and plug it into the socket under the dash.I picked it up Friday and wouldn't you know it,I went back to work on Saturday for four days so no time to really enjoy it until mid-week.

Goof looking truck CKW. If it lasts and holds up like my 87, you will have a winner! Toyota rocks.

You will like it. A neighbour has one and he hauls a 3 horse goose neck trailer with it all the time. He swears by it.

Binrat: still trying to figure out what to mount....FT-450at or something new(TS-480 Hx...TS-2000B???)...maybe the FT-817 and the HLA-300 amp....
Bought and extra receiver for the hitch to mount my BIG KJ7U 160-6 screwdriver antenna...going with stake post mounts for VHF/UHF...
Hope to have All Bands 160 - 440Mc when complete

No idea what to do about radios yet. If I do anything it will likely be just 2m and maybe HF down the road when I can afford a GOOD screwdriver antenna for the rear bumper. The problem is antenna mounting. I am NOT going to drill a hole in the roof as the power sliding moon roof takes up almost the entire roof. Front cowl mounts or windshield mounts look stupid IMHO and magnetic is out of the question due to paint damage and cable routing. I had thought of Larsen Kulrod series glass mount for 2m as they work well and I have used them before. I thought it would go well on the back window then I remembered that it is a power vertical slider so that is a wash. I can't use a stake pocket mount due to the tonneau cover. This may well be a radio free vehicle except for when going on vacation etc when I think I can tolerate a mag mount for a short time.

Now that is interesting.... Any thoughts on a mount like this-http://www.durhamradio.com/ss194a-stake-hole-mount-long-stud-ontario-canada.html
Very low profile where it mounts. I plan to keep mine on when the cap goes on shortly.

That is something to look at. I made my own similar unit years ago when I had Ranger with a cap installed. My new truck also has the Toyota bed rails installed which has a rubber strip covering the top of the bed rails so I would have to do some cutting which does not really appeal to me but I will have to take a closer look. Just got it Friday at suppertime and went back to work Saturday so I have not had time to even find about what all the switches in it do yet. :D This is what the bed rail system looks like on top and then I have the tonneau cover on top of that.

Here are the dealer specs on the vehicle I
bought. It has a few other things that are not listed as well like an engine oil cooler, transmission cooler, and even a power steering fluid cooler. It also has a six speed automatic transmission with the ability to manual shift it bu bumping the stick forward or backwards, traction control that can be turned off,all terrain tires, heavy duty battery, starter and 170 amp alternator and a few more things I forget about right now.

I may have found the answer to my dilemma. A tailgate mount similar to this one.

I found it while searching for ideas. This one is sold by a company called Outdoor Logic. I could probably make one from stainless for a lot cheaper but it is a starting point anyway.
