Ok so I'm getting in my new power supply and antenna on Tuesday, but since my setup is anything but ordinary (thanks to my landlord) I really have alot of questions even after reading as much information as I could absorb on the internet. Let me first describe my situation:

- I live in an apartment where I will never have access to the roof, luckily I'm pretty high up but roof access is not an option. I've asked multiple times.

- I don't have a balcony but I do have a window, my windows are aluminum and won't ground anything, there is a air conditioner installed not sure what can be done with it though.

Ok now you more or less know my situation, here are some questions...

1) I ordered a no-ground antenna after realizing I would lose at least 15% power by using a NGP antenna, now ordering another would be fine but what can I use as a ground? Would a magnetic mount work if I put it on top of an air conditioner and are there any drawbacks by placing a cb antenna directly over an a/c?

2) Is there maybe a possibility that I can ground a regular mount antenna by plugging it into the ground hole of a wallsocket? Again what would be the drawbacks and is it possible to burn the house down or something catastrophic this way?

3) I can use a mobile cb antenna of up to 4 feet which mobile cb antenna would work best in my environment? I already have a firestik 4 feet NGP antenna on the way but I'd like to have the best reception transmission possible w/o hitting anyone with interference.

Thanks for reading!

I have used a mag mount LIL WILL antenna stuck to an air conditioner in a window it worked ok, you could even stick it to a large cookie sheet so you could move it around the apt and try it in different locations. Dont mess with the wallsockets ! If you have radiators by a window you could stick it on the radiator or a fridge all these will work but not as good as an outside up in the air antenna .

Well sorry to hear your landlord is not the type to be more considerate ..

I like the cookie sheet...also can use refridge..
Do you have a fire escape..if so can build a mount to go off of it
allowing/enabling you to mount an antenna a couple of ft from fire escape..

I know you said..no way to get to the roof..
Why not offer landlord say $50-$100 to let you on roof for a day ?

Myself...I have 2 chimneys and a vent pipe on the roof...
My land lord thinks i am a bit nuts...but i ran LDF5 & LDF7-50a too roof...going to a HF 5/8 wave groundplane..as well as dual banded GP-9 and 3 beams (1.25 & 2 meters and 70CM)

my 2 verticals are 22-25 ft above the roof (GUYed of course )

You know how the saying goes..
Money talks and B.S. walks

You could make a simple dipole and attach it to the window sill somehow. The magmount idea on the air conditioner is a pretty good idea, though.

Ive managed to tune fire stik IIs to some crazy things. They work pretty good to if you get up high. Id say get one and a mag mount for it and put it on that air conditioner.

Tune it up and you should be good to go!
