Base Need base antenna advice

Check out the Bird Cage antenna built by Dave Made it’s a full wave vertical built like a tank. Also Mr. Coily and Shockwave are excellent preforming antennas built very strong.

radioeddz, do you know anything else about this antenna or RF Junk dot com?

I find no other listing on YouTube and that is really strange.

I found a discussion on QRZ forum. See the link below. I'm not sure, but it may require membership to the forum to see this thread however.

Are you talking about the " Dave Made Full wave" antenna?
It is based on the Vector 4000 Antenna.
It has been described by a few other names as well.
I think the Jury is still out on it actually being a full wave antenna but there was some discussion on it in one of the Vector threads.
A Bird cage antenna or more properly call a "cage dipole" is not the same thing.
I can say this:
Concrete Man has a big smile on his face somewhere.
I saw a picture he posted long ago of that antenna being built but it went away quickly.
Dan AKA Mr Coiley can build nice antennas and they are popular up in the Pacific North west , but I like the matching system used on the Inecepter 10K .
The Vector antenna may never be fully understood.
I know that a couple times I have thought I understood how it works, only to find it is more complex than I thought.

Hey, how are you doing young man? We were typing at about the same time.

Have you ever seen or known of someone that has seen this antenna except on RFJunk. I think it is just some pretty good CGI work. I'm not sure about their intentions either.

I am still kicking Eddie.
Concrete Man posted in a thread one time and in that post was part of this antenna in a picture that was in that post , I remember it very well because of the real nice spreader that is at the top of the basket.
I will dig and see if I can find that post but I think it went away.
Concrete was never conservative with his style (I went to bat for him a few times but...)
back then and a few of his posts got lost in a black hole.
I will see if I can find it.

I have been searching for a couple hours now but no luck.
The picture from RF junk and the one from CCM that was partially completed are the only 2 I have ever seen.
It was sitting on the floor of what looked like a garage or shop.

I’d do a half wave doublet with a small matchbox won’t eat up your power and if you want you could mount it in the attic and forget the wind and snow. If you’ve got the real estate make a double five eighths wave dipole on channel 38 aka a double extended zepp. Smaller antenna collects less ice and wind load though. Shakespeare made a real heavy duty vertical can’t remember the model but the military used a version of it for a long time it’s pretty short and tougher than an Antron. I’ll sniff around see if I can find a model number. I like wire antennas though, if they break you just string up more wire lol.

I would agree with the EDZ (extended double zepp) being a good choice. I just made one for VHF that comes close to my 2 element yagi.
If you nail the length of the ladder line then no need for a current balun

Google Davemade Bird cage antenna If you ever hear Kbar 665 in West Virginia he has one. I’m not sure if the one on Qrz is the same one or not there is a photo on Pineterest of one also

Looking for a suggestion for a base antenna. I live in the mountains of New Hampshire... lots of snow and ice... frequent winds... needs to be able to take a wallop. Not running an amp. Primarily for DXing on 38lsb.

I have an Antron 99 at just 30ft but it has survived Florida weather for about 5 years which includes an Ice Storm,a heavy Hail Storm or almost Golf Ball size hail stones & several Hurricanes & Tropical Storms. We also have quiet strong thunderstorms with high winds yet the Antron is still going strong. I have seen IMax 2000's that were snapped off in the middle from those same storms so I think the Antron is a much better choice. Not a lot of wind load since it is just a straight piece without the useless ground plane kit.

I tend to agree with Six-Shooter.

IMO, this Dave Made Bird Cage antenna has more of a wind load problem, rather than an improved durability solution.
