need help on cb radio setup

Just finally got my 203 from Newegg.

Don’t even know what I’ll use it for...maybe a driver for a DX3200 :D
I was thinking about using two 203s on a pair of mirror mount antennas with the cophase harness. One amp per antenna. They would probably need some kind of input match. Haha!

I run a 980 barefoot, 30 miles is never a problem, base to base. My antenna I built from wire is below

Yagi calculator I have used in the past.... Maybe I'll just make another one for the cb frequencies I want to operate on.

Yagi's are extremely directional.
Do want to beam to a specific received ?
Or send and receive in 360 deg?
With the old Antron. A 3 piece 18ft fiberglass antenna,bout $80 bucks.
I could talk talk 30 miles.
It was 50 ft up on the house peak.
My favorite radio is the Galaxy DX 959.
With soldering skills you can turn any CB into a great radio.
Better quality voltage regulator.
Better quality filter diodes and a few other tweeks.
My real question is.
Will you be communicating with other vehicles, handhelds, properties?
You can buy 5-30 watt FRS radio base stations.
And 5 watt hand helds.
And set up a pretty good system.
If privacy is key.
You'll have to go digital.
There are business bands that don't require a lisence.
The radios are more expensive.
But digital security can be priceless.

Hi,

I am on pretty flat terrain, and the terrain all over this area is pretty flat. The only thing potentially blocking RF would be trees or buildings basically, so if I go high enough with the antenna I could have pretty good line of sight over a pretty long range. I don't have a ham license and wasn't intending to get one. I would love to be able to get 30 mile range, but would be happy with less if that's what I have to settle on. Just wondering what options I have. I have a lot to learn but want to dive in quickly because with the current situation we are in, I want some form of backup communications, so rather than just listening to idiots on google or whatever I decided to come ask the people that probably have more experience for some recommendations...
when and if the big one hits nobody will need any type of license nor govt. permission to use it have a great day. !!!
