Any ideas on a simple vertical dipole like a IMAX 2000 type 144/440 and 23cm design.

1/2 wav and 5/8 wave and whatever else would be low angle and decent.

Not a ton of choices for that combinations of bands
I own a Diamond commercial grade 2m...been up many years now...Zero issues.
Excellent range at 45+ft...
If your looking CHEAP...

I wonder how MFJ gets SO much Gain out of a 5.5 ft long antenna...must be the same calculations that IMAX(Solarcon) and Siro and others use for some other bands:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

You can hardly go wrong with this idea. If you make one for 2 meters it'll work well on 70cm also (like using a 40 meter dipole on 15 meters, it's very close to a 3:1 frequency match.)

You can form the end of the vertical part into an "eye" and hang it up as high as necessary (or allowable).

Something like this no ground plane ect.

Sorry thought you were looking for antenna ideas with some big gain...not something to work repeaters 5 miles away. What you have shown above on the adapters are barely better than a rubber duck(tuned dummy loads) but can work if range is short. Simplex work takes gain and HEIGHT.

No. The link I sent shows four radials, each one attached to one of the four corners of the SO-239. Gotta have the radials; this is a 1/4 wave ground plane, bare bones. But put it up 10 feet in the air and it'll beat the snot out of the rubber duck that came with the HT. 20 feet up, even better. Just don't forget to use GOOD feedline if you're going to go much above 20 feet or so on 70 cm.

If you're going to have to use it indoors, might as well use the duck.
