New Cobra 29 Am/Fm

What does VR7 do? It looks like it might possibly be the FM Deviation control, seeing as it is near the PLL/VCO daughterboard. Have you tried to adjust it, listen on another radio, see if that is it? Then put it back if it isn't.
Where would one find a decent priced deviation meter? I like fm so I may look to the uk, shipping seems reasonable from there. I wont be able to do the test tonight, the Mrs wont loan me her headphones.

FM has a capture effect
Yes, the strongest signal mutes the weaker ones.
Have to run the squelch because of the gain.
For a local evening rag chew its a good mode, but I would not chose it if I needed to work long distance.
There are a few guys down on 26.805 that run FM when the band is open.
Just another option that has its uses.

I received a C29 Classic AM/FM through Amazon Sat. I have opened the case to evaluate, thus far, I have deduced these:

- VR7 is indeed the Deviation control, as the wiper terminal goes to JP34, which goes to the FM-Mod connection of the PLL/VCO daughterboard. The "high side" of VR7 goes over towards the Mic amp/audio side of the radio. More on that, later.

- On the Channel control CPU board, the Yellow wire goes to the Ch9 switch. On the board, the next pad towards the front of the radio, is marked Ch19.

- The TX VCO connection of the daughterboard goes straight to the Pre-Driver circuit. So, until I hook it up, and put a Freq Counter, I am assuming direct 27 MHz from this connection.

I will get pics for it later.

its all gossip anyway. there is nothing on the cobra website about it, no statements released about it from cobra, and they said in a return email to me "we have no intentions of releasing any mobile fm cb radios at this time". so, like i said in my earlier post, cobra is a joke now and they should just pack it up and call it quits.
They’re here :)

Like most manufactures, they don’t really care about the hobby. They just want to sell more stuff. I can’t fault them for that. I will say, however, I sell a lot of radios and only about 1 out of every 2500 radios have a noticeable factory defect. I’m not talking about the channel selector skipping channels and other design flaws. I’m talking about the radio just not working. Lets hope it stays that way.

Here we go again. Im trying to find a regular 29ltd classic with no fm and they are out of stock everywhere. Some sites even say discontinued, huh. Is cobra gonna screw up like that again? Like all the good radios they have made in the past, discontinued. Jeez

GWub I never even thought about holding back a few. What was I thinking? I'll check all my back stock but I think I'm out. I had alot in stock and finally ran out for the last time a couple weeks ago. I'm into the am/fm stock now.

Thanks for looking. I dont like blue lights
Oh, yeah. Didn't think of that. It's hard on the eyes, yet, all these manufactures are doing blue. Personally, I think amber is easiest on the eyes at night yet bright enough during the day. You can always change out the channel and meter lights for 10 bucks.

I found one at a small cb shop that's been around for 50 years, here in Omaha (Irvington Nebraska). He has a few and is just selling them at $149. It's literally 6 blocks from where I park my camper. Let me know if you want one for that price. I don't think he ships. I'll pick it up. You'll need to pay for shipping. Priority Mail $14.

It's probably one I traded him for a few months back. I ran out of 29 Chrome at one time. He had a case so we worked out a trade.
