New FT-818

They keep getting smaller. Never could use that one, I would never see the display.
Part of the perceived problem with the FT- 891. The bigger the display, the more juice it draws. Not so great for portable, but I love mine for mobile.

I have fairly bad eyesight nowadays and in the mobile I need as large of a display as I can get. The 706 was about as small of a display I can use. Eye doctor want me to switch to bifocals but not giving in yet.

There is a program for Android called Pocket RXTX that you can connect to the Yaesu rigs, either via USB or bluetooth. I am playing with the updated version for the 819, which still has some details to work out. I am sure Dan will update the program for the new FT-818 as well. You can use it with a smart phone or tablet, and that gives you a pretty large display. Mudfoot has a line on a Windows 10 based program that is in development, too. Either one might be an option for you. I currently wear mono vision contacts, one for distance, and one for up close, but I know bi-focals are in my near future!
