I believe that the entry level Japanese amateur license is restricted to 10 watts.

There have been other radios releases that in the Japanese market are only 10 watts but in other markets they are higher power.

Or it is simply a modern version of the IC-703.

I figured that, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they decide to market the QRP model over here in the states to go up against the KX2/KX3/FT-818/etc. Actually, 10W is twice what I usually run these days.

That seems to be the aimed market, Notice both the internal battery and charging indicators.

I agree that would be a lot of radio for the money.

Looks like it might be a decent rig. It looks busy though. Be sweet if they could pack all that in IC-706 chassis. If it's only QRP, then I'll pass.

Then its a fail on ICOM, there are no entry-level radios for less than $900.

There's plenty of entry level rigs for LESS than that.
