Hello All, I'm a new member as of a few days ago. I've been in and out of cb since the late 60"s and now I'm getting back in again. I just got an old washington with the (858) and am looking for a schematic or at least a diagram of where the pins of the chip connect, especially pins 19 & 20. There's a little damage there, missing etch, bad soldering. I'm hoping that it will be an easy fix and that there's nothing else wrong. Thanks

Yep, could well be they added channels. Check your Noise Blanker and other switches or buttons and see if they don't take you off to Extra Channel Land.

I'm not the person to ask when it comes to modding a CB radio.
There are some mods which are not bad - although probably illegal - such as adding extra channels and then there are mods which would probably get you into trouble - transmitting out of band - like on the 10 meters.

The only comment I will make is - with all the stuff floating around on flea bay - why bother with something that is only margional in performance?
The Cobra 2000 can be had at most Hamfests for less then 200 with an Astatic mic included.
With a small amplifier - less then 100 watts - you could talk clear around the world when the band conditions were right - and still stay on this side of the law.

The problem with the A - Channels is that most truckers and CB'rs don't have them anymore unless they have a export radio such as a Ranger.
They are ok if you want to talk on a more private channel or if you want to have more channels to choose from. But anyone with a programmable scanner or radio can still listen to you - there isn't anything special about them.

Small amplifiers are legal now on CB? Hmmmmm:whistle:

Any Export radio such as the General Lee (Older Version), Galaxy 55,99, Any radio with a 10k switch will take you to the old style A channels. The A Frequency's were used for the Remote Control Airplanes back in the early '70's
