The ALINCO is great sounding especially on AM. I use my radio on 75 AM, and no complaints from anyone, and they are a great buy.

im surprised no said icom 718 these sound very good on ham bands .locals here have them
and love em. alinco is anorher good choice. for am ,assuming your meaning 11meters
a good old cobra 29 is very decent and usually alot cheaper than buying high
power export for just am . never understood that one..lol

The alinco sr8t is around 500 new. That's not far fr most exports these days, and from what I can tell and have been told by many as well it's the best bang for the buck. I have been debating on getting one myself!! Just not home enough to have a permanent hf base station though. It is a great looking radio and from all reviews seems to be a great starter hf radio. JMO. God bless.

Alinco Sr8t or ICOM 718 are calling your name. Seriously if you hold a tech ticket why would you want to buy an inferior product?
