Has any one used the new Roadking mic,s yet?. I,v hadit with ALL the ASTATIC mic,s . The last one worked for 1 week and than stoped keying up all the time.

I'm sure astatic doesn't make them anymore, they are made by barjan out of china for awhile now

RK's are junk too...which is understandable since I believe they were bought out by the same people who bought out Astatic!

Wires are too thin and brake in the connectors, hardly any solder is used to attach the thin wires either so if they don't brake, they just pull lose...

SRA 198 is probably the best built NC Mic available right now, biggest problem with it tho is you almost have to eat the thing to get any audio out of it.

Interesting, got any more info to share?

Yes I purchased one of these (Heil) for my IC-7000.(maybe 3 years ago)
Much improved sound by reports than the Chinese mic that came with it. (HM-151)
I later sent the Chinese version to https://www.7000mic.com/hm-36
He rebuilt it.
He changed the mic element and made some components changes, which made a HUGE improvement over the original sound.
I had some reports that the Heil sounded better, others that said the rebuilt version sounded better. So I ran the original as it had controls for the radio built on the keypad.
I kept the Heil and have it on an old Amp Supply 10 meter mobile rig, I keep around as a monitor for the bench.
I found the switching on the Heil, smooth and it took some abuse in the truck. Still run it on occasion with the 10m mobile, when not using one of the bench rigs.
All the Best
Gary

AB5N also does many other mic modes for ICOM/Elecraft and a few Yaesu hand mics.
He is a good guy and does things fast (week to 10-day turnaround) and I think at a very reasonable cost.

I was going to send him the HM-36 stock mic (Chinese version) that came with my IC-7200 as the output from it was weak. Other 7200 owners report outstanding results doing so.

Instead, I sold the radio and purchased a TS-590SG.
Problem solved. (y):D

Well... from what I’ve been told and witnessed myself, it’s not any better. Every single one I’ve sold has come back and I was told the reason is “they’re muddy sounding” and some even said they just weren’t clear and clean.

So one guy had me take the old element out of some of the old RK56 that say Telex in the back (in white) and move them and the transformer into the Stryker mic. Of course that sounded pretty darn good and I’ve done countless ones since. Why not just use the RK56 the elements and such came from? I don’t know... I guess the guy likes the look of the SR65 - I don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

I can’t say they all sound that way but this is from a recent batch I ordered... take it for what it’s worth. Do your own research on it and see what you get, you might be happy with the results.

Hand held Mic's I like the Palomar 41SL (which is impossible to find right now) and the RF Limited Extreme 2018 (which is getting hard to find)....3rd in line would be the Ranger SRA 198, after that I have no preference.... However, I will say the Uniden Stock Mic's all seem to be pretty good...cords are a little short, but the Mic's are damn good for stock.

I have never had a problem with the new Astatic 636L. They seem to sound the best. I will say the cords stretch and the likelihood of the switch going bad happens. But both can be replaced and you will still have a good microphone. Rk56's just do not sound good. And they use the same switch in both.
