New Uniden BC906W Cordless Mic

Some guys use it as "pagers" when they're in having coffee waiting for the fuel aisle to clear - or when they finally top-off and the hand is waiting tor the driver to return - you can hear some funny stuff.
So, be careful where you use it, and the conversation you have with it in the open - it's hands free - not private.

A few questions, if you will:
1). Was looking at the KES-5 speaker (my other mystery purchase) and figured that (with an amp behind it) it could wake the dead cranked up.
— SM, you ever stay in range and turn off mic? Save that battery till your ol’ compadres get on air? I was thinking one could be out of the vehicle (or house) and get about a little . . “wait” till one heard what he wanted come across the radio. General Purpose, be able to hear RX without worrying over intelligibility. Then, push the Magic button!
2). Any comment about battery life (type of use); endurance? Saw a review where’s in use it all day said he was having to re-charge it 3X per 8-10/hrs use. (No details past that).
3). How are you securing it to self that it doesn’t get lost or dropped?
. . . ‘cause Xmas is gettin’ close and we need to get this prototype holder moved to production status, stat!
Who needs pet rocks. Three, Four radio rigs parked in an equidistant radius from a center and imagine the mystification as Voice-A comes across first one rig, then another. And another. With Voices B, C, D doing the same thing.
All kinds of “field tests”. Rigs on different sides of a hill near a highway.
Four Old Farts: Folding chairs and a beer cooler. Major Base station and on down in quality to the mud ducks mud duck. AM-19 at afternoon rush hour. Lumbago to who’s had the latest colostomy. Swap mics constantly. Ignoring everyone else. Ha!
So we need to get crackin.

Just a quick note...
This is a Bluetooth device, using and fighting for, airspace amongst other Bluetooth devices.
It will work once paired. For then the airwaves it works are "enabled" and secure for the communication to and from it. But the output and input to this pair is not secured - think telephone or Cell phone standing out in an elevator or stairwell trying to have a personal conversation.
This is partly the reasoning why BT enabled devices are a bane - the sheer number and the bandwidth they use for each one can get quite congested in Truck stops and Restaurants so you have been warned. The CB-side of things looks more like you are using two sets of frequencies to use, for you and your radio for use of one. So there was some nice features, but the social side didn't accept the notion well. But if you used it for another set of frequencies like GMRS or FRS - then you'd have similar problems with traffic and bandwidth but a little more social acceptance.

- The Pair "squawk" it has to emit may not be able to reach the radio's side. So if you turn it off, remember that the antenna it uses is inside the cab, then maybe thru the effort of propagation from the external antennas you have on the truck, may you get a strong enough reception to re-establish the connection.
- For Battery life, this was a major down, the handset REQUIRES a separate plug in cord to recharge it, although it can last for several days without one - the auto-pair and power management systems it uses are more antiquated now - so, if it simply can't sense the other unit (base goes off when Radio powers down), it's shut down method still is common, but the battery life itself in standby is still using older linear systems that are hybrids of both Digital and Analog for battery management. You should power it off else polling from other units trying to find their pairings are going to make the BT signal active as it answers back it's ID as well as it's "in use" even when the Base unit which can SEND (not necessarily receive) a stronger more dedicated signal to pair and warn others of "in use" - does not help the handsets' stand alone battery management requirements.
- The thing was a bane to deal with when used for short periods then let that handset set idle for long periods of time, to be unable to float charge, Cradle has no provision for recharging and you can't truly use the mic side very well when it needs a recharge and it's plugged in for this purpose, while it's in the cradle made this a "do not buy" for my kind of uses.

It had me cracked up (stayed up too late) thinking about FOF with their voices coming off of a different radio with every new medical malady monologue (MMM).
Still, . . that little mike looks like it’d be easy to drop or mishandle. I guess a keeper lanyard until some other idea comes up.
To me, the mic is a secondary choice (to have available).

I believe that you can turn off the mic to save battery and still have it reconnect. I think the base learns the mic when the base is first turned on. So as long as the base stays on, it will always be looking for that mic. The mic has a clip on it so you can clip it to your pocket or jacket lapel. Battery charge lasts most of the day but will be dead in the evening if left on all day. You can plug the charging cord into it while using it. And clip it to something near by. Maybe a better battery can be put in it, I don't know.
Finally hooked one up.
Am running a Uniden-980/KL203 in the Peterbilt this trip.
Have used it only a few times (short day), but am looking to use it a good bit tomorrow with The Pennsylvania Crybabies (man, they’re bad in that state; drivers complaining about other drivers. It’s a regular routine. Like reciting; “Who's on First?”).
Fidelity at my end seems excellent. Two (2) reports say it sounds good (the Wilson 2000 antenna pair shows 1.00-SWR on 20 & 01 then 1.20 on 40; on the radio meter).
Have a filter after the radio, and a band-pass filter after the amp.
Will have to get used to using it versus a standard corded mic. I’ll leave it “off” till use wanted.
Initial battery charge didn’t seem to take long.
And I noticed that use is alike to forming a knuckle-ball to get voice across element correctly.
Take it from the holster in, The Delaware Draw.

As I said earlier, what is said on the air out there that mic will repeat in your hand as the remote speaker.
So in light of the possibilities - some humor is needed...
Because of those "Crybabies" - you may not be able to "filter out" what is being said on the air without the others around you hearing about it.
