Newbie Here w/Some DX Questions....

wow you're leavin me behind! Haven't been able to have a conversation on ssb yet, just got my number called. Hell, even that could have been someone using the same numbers. That metal roof ground plane sounds great.

I think it's the antenna. ND88, is that your call sign? I will try you tomorrow off and on. I hope you're able to get out soon. I really can't believe I was able to because of where I live. I pulled the globe off the shelf this afternoon and was looking at the transmission directions for different parts of the world. Pretty cool to see 3 dimension-ally instead of on a flat piece of paper. I am going to do a hack video of the exact setup I'm using and post it to the tube. Going to upload it tomorrow late and will post a link here on the forum in a new thread. I want to say that it is plainly obvious that I am no expert and been only at this a week. But, I think it would be nice for other newbies and hacks to see something that is really working so far and maybe open the door for improvements. At this point I really see no need to send the radio out for a peak and tune. Would've wasted my money..

I go by 313 SSB and Grinder on AM. I have my radio on 11:15-11:40am and 2-4pm for the ride home. Pick a channel and I'll try to contact. I'm in SW Ohio.
 
I know nothing about galaxy's but someone posted on the thread started by Stormblu they are notorious for being off frequency when new unless you pay extra to get them tuned on ssb . Can't say I believe this would be true due to quality control .

To be honest I can't remember hearing any one from Ohio or Wv or Virginia . The propagation has been shooting right past your state . Hmmmm .....

I will try to make contact with ya tomorrow. I have tried western stations multiple times as the skip has swung from europe to south to west in the afternoons here and can't seem to get out to the west. I hear stations every day from MO,Texas,Cali' and the pacific northwest and there was a strong one from Manitoba today. Manitoba is northwest of here and it seems anything west is a problem. I am right up against a 3600' peak completely blocking the western sky. Will def' give it a shot. :unsure:

Channel 37 lsb at the times you listed.

You need to put that thing on 38-LSB and call out CQ-DX with your numbers until you get a reply. I'd probably try 37LSB and 39LSB as well if that doesn't work out pretty quickly. You should have no problem making contacts with that rig if it is on frequency and you don't sound like Mickey Mouse (or worse) to everyone on SSB. If you can hear them they can probably hear you...along with 150 other people in the pileup. Your best next move is to buy a 2 pill amp and it will make DX considerably easier for you. The mountains don't matter. You are bouncing off the ionosphere when talking skip. Good luck. -305portable.

Yes, I believe Miami. He has a really good station. Don't know how much power he's running but he tears my face of when he cq's.
 
That's the one talked to him 2 or 3 times in the last few weeks don't know what he runs but I give him 9dbs when we talk .
