Every now and then the subject comes up of the proper way to solder a coax connector or heavy ground wires etc. In the past I have mentioned about soldering copper flashing etc also. I have mentioned about using a solder tip made to fit a propane torch and a lot of folks have never heard of such a thing. I tried to find an image on the net to post several times and came up empty. I have since looked in the hardware stores and again came up empty. Apparently these are a thing of the past I guess. Last week I was cleaning up my shop and low and behold I found it. this will fit the regular size propane torch head as well as the smaller "Spitfire" heads which I have it mounted to in the images below. It takes about 45 seconds to go from cold start up to melting solder. Not sure what the wattage equivalent it would be but any electric iron would be hard pressed to even try and keep up with it. It even works on LARGE copper sheets. Once you get started it just keeps going and going and going and goi......

I had one of those before my move last year, works great. Just have to ensure you keep your body parts away from the flame ports. It only takes once to find out why.

Bought this for $2.00 at a garage sale many years ago. The cord on it was shot so I replaced it and it's worked ever since. Made by Wall Mfg of Grove City PA. 315 Watts. It will solder a coax connector in a heartbeat.

I will try to remember to take a pic of the iron my Father-in-law gave me. The 4-sided tip is about 3/4" across in all four directions and it gets so hot it is scarey.

Holy Balls!! That looks like a devastating mishap waiting to happen!! LMA:LOL:!!

Industrial setup plumbing automobile radiator repair jobs ETC.

Great. I bought mine new and now they call them "vintage". What does that say? :(

Here is L.A. we have one of the largest flea markets in the country at the Rose Bowl every month. You would be surprised what gets marketed as "vintage" that just came off the shelf a few months ago. Anything to make a buck...
