I used to have one in an old car... That thing would work anywhere. When you would make a call you got connected to a automated voice that asked for your credit card number. I only used it a few times in an emergency.

BAH! In my day we carried around briefcase-sized devices that weighed 10 pounds. They only worked in major cities and cost $3.00 a minute to operate, and all you could do with them was make a phone call.

To this day I still use only a very simple Nokia candybar phone. It serves my needs and that's all I care about.

Yeah, I had the analog phone in my car with 5w and had no dead spots in Indiana. I held on to that till the digital took over and they quick using analog. $1600 to have that installed, man did I look nifty in my little company Mitsubishi. My office manager had the big bag phone. She was green.

I got a smartphone for the first time about 8 months ago.. being well versed in the state of the art I had some idea of what I was getting into, but I had no idea just how capable these new phones are. I have an HTC Inspire, which is an Android phone, but the iphone boasts similar functionality.

To put it simply, time on the shitter will never be the same. There's nowhere I go that I can't surf the web, play games, check and respond to emails, and pretty much everything in between. Android phones are fully functional Linux computers.. in your pocket.

One of my jobs is running the IT dept. at a local hospital.. IMO the future of computing is in smartphones. From my view it's not much of a stretch technologically to get rid of your office desktop PC, and replace it with a dock for your phone. This dock would have USB ports, HDMI port, and a network port for keyboard, mouse, printer, video and hardwired network connectivity. At the end of the day, you pop your phone out of the dock and go home. All the security features and much of the processing power are already there to make this system as secure and nearly as capable as a desktop PC. With future generations of SoC (System on a Chip) CPUs smartphones will be very much capable of use as a replacement for a desktop PC.

The way I figure is twofold:

1) I'm hella good looking.. tends to overshadow the whole "takign a shit" thing to most observers.

2) The other party or parties involved in the call should just be happy that smells can't be transferred via cellular networks.
