Can anyone tell me if the Magnum stock mics are wired the same for these two rigs? OmegaForce S45HP and Magnum 257HP.

Thanks,

The L type connector for my stock mic that came with the Omegaforce must have shorted something out. It got wonky a few weeks back when the screw came out. Yes, I had a screw loose! No audio from the input on the left side of the rig. I tested it with a known good mic that came with my 257HP. 4 Pin jack works fine on the right side of the rig though... I just don't like to have the mic cord drag all the way across from the other side. Probably not going to have it repaired, but I did like the sound of the stock mic with the radio.

Brett I have ran a 636L with mine on the 4 pin side and everyone tells me it sounds decent, the stock power mic does rock, I like mine alot too.

Hey Greg, I may try the Astatic... have one sitting in the closet. Currently running an RK-56 and it seems to do pretty good. I could run the stocker at 1/2 volume and it was perfect. No background noise, and clear audio. To me, the RK-56 seems a little muddy on this radio compared to the stocker. And usually the 636L is kind of bassy with my voice, too. I'll try it this weekend and compare.

Well everyone tells me that RK56's sound bassy with my voice also, but I run a Turner +3 on another certain rig and you say it sounds good and you know my voice so I guess it is not a Turner thing, although I think they are more bassy than the astatic's . JMHO

The stock Magnum mics are actually power mics, there is a VR volume pot inside. One of the few stock mics that rock.

Yes they do sound good so I have been told by many, great stock mic, the magnums that is. I do like my 2018 though behind the PC122xl makes a mean and clean little radio.

Yes, I agree, and it works well with the all mode talkback, too. (Louder than any of the other ones without feedback). Wish mine had not messed up. I must have burned something up when the 9 volt hot wire crossed. I'm disappointed, but not so much that I'll pay to have it fixed!

count yourself lucky, when it happened to me I had to get the radio repaired.

Man, that's too bad. I guess I AM lucky! I actually had a couple of issues at the same time. I had a dipole go wonky on me, and was throwing waaay high SWR. Radio was getting hot, and not modulating. Caught the SWR problem before I burned anything up, and was scratching my head about the no output end of it. Hooked another Magnum mic up, and it still wouldn't talk. Hooked up a 4 pin to it, same result. Then remembered the 4 pin that I was testing had a shorted wire in it, too. This was after I took it to a tech, and he said if I'd just run a 4 pin mic it would be fine. I had a d'oh moment, and told him I screwed up. He doesn't charge if there's nothing wrong with the radio when he tests it, but I gave him a $20 for his time and effort due to my stupidity. :D
