Optima MK lll

Really. Mine is in the mobile mounted so I can't tell right now. Would have to pull it out to tell.

I think spot 1 and removing it are the same, probly no connections going to spot 1, just a place to hold the jumper

open the pdf manual and look at the bottom of page 6

Mine has a jumper on the first port on the very left of the board. Looking at it from the front of the radio it's the 4th position just like the photo you posted camaro1.

Good find camaro1! You must be right, it says no jumper equals freeband mode but then it shows a jumper on port 1 lol. Either way it should work!! Get that radio going 918!! You will be happy!

Man im already happy.... caught some skip coming in from the west coast and with that external speaker, Noise blanker, and filter on, it damn near sounded like the other stations were in the room with me. I love how quiet this receive is... only letting in the stations, and not all that noise. HUGE difference from the 959... the receive on the 959 is super sensitive, but it also lets in a lot of noise so sometimes its hard to hear the quiet stations over that.... With the optima, i can hear them over the noise! I havent tried the external speaker on the 959 thoughn it could help it. Now the 959 is going back to the mobile.

Cannot wait til i can have a full morning to DX with it, ill get to really play on wednesday.
only thing i dont like about it so far is how loud the beeping is even at min. Volume. With the ext. Speaker it about blows my ear drum out.

You can turn the beep off, there is a way to do it. Check the Manual. I think it can be turned off. Gosh I can't even remember. To turn off the beep hold the ptt button on the mic and turn the radio on/off. To turn back on repeat the above.

yup page 9 of the manual:

This tone sounds each time the CPU is being programmed.
It is helpful, in the beginning so you can be sure the
command has been entered. You may eliminate the tone by
simply pressing the PTT switch on the microphone and
turning on the ON/OFF POWER switch at the same time.
