Palomar Max Mod

You will also find too - that the main "sense" for this section - it the 8V constant from the Radio itself - the AM "power" is set thru that reference - so what happens when you have radio that have envelope control - Stryker uses Q56 just like Galaxy.

So, as you try to raise up the regulated voltage to provide a voltage boost, the radio keeps itself about the same regulation "difference" between the on-board 8V and the Q56 sense control. You might see the radio swing backwards if people that I've seen abuse them - from attempting this voltage push and envelope control kicks it back down.

It's why there is the RWOB (Red Wire On Bottom - B. Ward) option many take to radios like this - quickest way to screw it up....

I've seen some vids of people hacking these up. It's a shame. I simply went in there, did the conversion, pumped the Hi AM to 20W carrier, and then adjusted the AM ANL so that I get 40W pep on a 2W carrier. I did it this way for my DX-500v. On SSB I have about 95 to 98W pep on Hi, and with the RF power knob fully counter clockwise, I am swinging to 40 pep, MAX. Again, to run the amp. The radio shows a decent forward swing on an average reading meter. I see no reason to beat up on a radio when there are amplifiers to be used as work horses.
