Pole Cat CB base antenna

It was not a very good looking antenna but who cared as long as it did what it was for, if i had the know how on antenna building i would give it a try of rebuilding the Pole Cat with a bigger load, not a real big one but just big enough so i could put more that 100 watt through it, does the radio shack 5/8 handle 1000 watts or less, if it is still there i could pick it up and use it.
I never owned ant Radio Shack CB antennas but the blue crossbow. It did not handle much power.

Hi Homer, i been looking at that drawing of how to put the replacement coil on but the drawing doesn't look right, the Red wire (The Coax Center Conductor)from the coax is where the ground would be on i think and the (Coax Braid The Coax ground )would be the Blue wire, when i looked at the drawing it kind of confused me, sorry for being so picky, i get confused easily and wanted to be sure i wasn't wrong.
Homer you also said that you had a Blue Cross Bow,, are you talking about the Radio Shack Crossbow beam, i don't know anything about them except what i read about them, didn't know they couldn't handle much power but is i used it i would probably or i would change out the gamma to one that could at least take a KW even though i wouldn't that kind of power.

Nope.
The coax braid goes to the bottom of the coil with the radials.
The coax center is used to tap the coil wherever the match is found on the coil.
The vertical radiator is connected to the top of the coil.
Nope. Wasn't referring to the beam. I was talking about the blue vertical monopole.

Hi HomerBB, I bought a lemm antenna, the Superlemm AT 92. Its a 5/8 wave with a big coil on it with a wire connected to the coil with a brass ring with a screw in it.The other end goes into the SO239/PL259 connector.Would adjusting that brass ring on the coil be how the swr is tuned? or would it be the top whip adjustments up or down?
I've tried to find information on this antenna including emailing rfantenne.it but I've not gotten an answer yet. It was mentioned in a blog/blurb in English but the PDF it was mentioned in is in Italian and was dated 1984.

I'm after putting the antenna together. First swr reading is 3 on 26.965 and 27.415. I'll adjust the wire on the coil and see how it goes from there.
So I found out why I was getting a 3 on the swr. The coax I was using had little lumps in it every 8 to 10 inches and when I cut a bit off of it and opened the coax, I found that the center wire was protruding through to the braid and causing problems.I swapped it for a different length of coax and started the swr measurements again. I had previously moved the wire on the coil but after a while I put it back to its original position. I lowered the bottom section of the antenna by six inches or so and retook the swr measurements again. The readings came back as 1 on 26.965 am and 1.4 on 27.415 am.
I went on air and heard some of the regulars around here, about 20 miles away or so and they said I was hitting them at a signal 5 and audio was very clear. The antenna is only up about 15 feet on a temperory stand at the moment. Its an empty wooden cable reel holder with concrete blocks for ballast. I'm happy out with that.

I had an old Rat shack base antenna that blew the match section. I constructed a matching ring similar to attached drawing. I tuned it for 10 metres and it would take everything a SB200 could put into it.
