Would you like to see comments all-allowed or totally banned on threads in the Swap & Sell Forum?

How many times have we seen folks post a $50 dollar junker and want $250 for it?

That's fodder for heckling and it's just good clean fun.

Other times known "bad dealers" post something and their previous "enemies" come out of the woodwork and start bashing.

Ect....ect....

SOMETIMES a staffer will step in and delete a single reply or issue a mild reprimand but the problem is that situation has no clear boundaries and the staff "enforcement" is uneven and arbitrary.

So how about some input leading to some new CLEAR RULES guys ?? !!

This is my personal opinion and has nothing to do with my admin status but I do not see any need for comments or replies at all. A notice can be made about what is for sale or what someone is looking for and the rest can be conducted via PM or emails. So what if someone wants $500 for a Cobra 29? :D It's his business to ask whatever he wants and the market will dictate if he gets it or not. HE is NOT the fool if someone actually pays him $500 for it now is he? Remarks about the asking prices or condition are pointless ESPECIALLY if you have no interest in buying the item. When buying an item advertised in the newspaper do you take out an ad commenting on it or do you deal with the person directly via the contact info given in the ad?

Weasel, your probably the one a decision like this would effect the most:oops:

And I completely agree with the Captain... Smart ass comments, have no place in someones sale thread.... Bumps, nice gear kind of stuff, interest posts etc, fine but if ya don't like whats up for sale then don't buy it...

It's all good. I am hardy the only one making comments on items in that forum.

Look what happened this week when Fred in Fla posted an item......

Viewpoints are meaningless in the absence of rules.

I don't care which way this goes, would just like to see a definitive policy in place.

Thanks!!

I think selling and buying should only be between the seller and buyer. Although nothing wrong with a positive comment along those lines. If one has a problem with sellers given prices ? You need not buy it , or you could try and make your negitive comment (if that) or offer in a PM.

Unfotunately at times , sellers have the right to ask what they want for given item (weather we think it's outragious or not) a bunch of negativity in ads from others would only be that, and only add to more. Then the sellers ad is only shredded and you give moderation a job they more then likely could have lived without in the first place.

No offence to you WW , I just think it keeps things in a more respectful surroundings. Now if this was some total rip off artist as was known through out the Internet as being so , well then a heads up to moderation would be a somewhat classy way to go.

The for sale section of the wwrf over the years has been a touchy subject and has had it's problems. Once taken completely off the site. Folks got the point what ownership wanted and brought it back there after. So it is best to follow the rules as is and leave well enough alone.

It was pretty much the same thing with the feedback section beings that it would go hand and hand with the for sale section. The new system for that seems to have cut the crap to a degree anyway.

Hi SK

What rules? That's what this is about.

"Leaving well enough alone" is the problem. No clear policy and uneven moderation.

I would think everyone would desire to see some clarity on the matter.

I gave fred positive feedback in that thread as I don't think he's a crook but I did give him negative feedback on the way he handled his dealings with the other fellow and I stand by what I said.

So don't throw stones if you're house is fragile even if you didn't start the fight.

Ahh, weasel, I never said your the only one, just an astute observation that a decision would certainly effect your posting habits...

I agree that there may be a time and place for comments, and believe me I've been tempted, some things are just outrageous, but then I think a minute and consider, for the most part everyone here is intelligent enough to make their own decision, and if not then they should probably ask for advice.

i think if someone has screwed over folks befor that folks should be allowed to comment about it . if the seller doesnt want people commenting on his/her previous unscrupulious dealings , then they should have been more honest to start with .

if someone clearly states an item is not working or for parts/junk pile but they can find someone to pay an outlandish ammount of money for it ...... more power to them . one persons junk can be anothers treasure .

i make comments or post links to more info on some things beng sold sometimes to help prospective buyers if they dont know exactly what theyre looking at .

That is what the feedback section is for.

I think all comments should be allowed. If you don't want people acting like it's a forum then you should be selling your crap on ebay. Forums are for forumating.

I do agree with this part, however you get IDIOTS like Wavrider coming in, trying to blow smoke up someones ass making accusations without any supporting facts, making sure he remains anonymous...

If your going to call someone out, and make claims, I think you should have the balls to do so without a cloak of anonymity, and with some kind of evidence to support your claims..

There is always two sides to a story, and I'm not sure a sale thread is the proper place to battle it out.

I agree, but in the proper area, I don't believe a Buy/Swap/Trade thread is the proper area. I think a thread such as the ones we have seen regarding FreeCell is the proper format for that.

I also think if someone is an obvious unscrupulous seller/trader that they should be fully restricted from doing business. Kinda think the management here does a decent job for the most part.

There used to be rules posted as a sticky, but I don't know where they went. I just modified the forum description. I don't see a problem with people asking questions about the item being listing, but the bashing has got to stop. Wavrider earned himself a timeout for his nonsense.
