I don't hav a cdl, but I try to keep from obvious dot violations because I am typically around 1000 lbs over weight.
I wasn't aware of state height dictating, because sometimes federal dictates. For example, crossing state lines in a dually without a log book, medical card, dot numbers, ect, will earn you a nice ticket. I can't imagine having to deal with dot every day. My hats of to you drivers.

I used to run a Wilson 5000 back in the day... ;) Great antenna, talked all over with it, and it did not look like a eye sore on my car.. :) Not that anyone cares.. LOL! The predator 10K is a nice antenna, a number of friends had them and they really liked them..

I've only seen audio altered with class c amps and changing cable length. I can't imagine an antenna altering sound quality.

I'm not going to argue about this topic , just saying what I saw and heard with my own eyes and ears, however perhaps the monkey fell into that range described in the link above. Because we did notice the difference more with the MM-4 model which had the longest electrical length, than we did using the MM Big Jon model which is shorter, as well as the predator10k.

No I never seen all the Monkey mades, just the ones I said already which seem to be about 5 ft.

Since the MM antennas do come in similar lengths as the Predator, there really shouldn't be any measurable difference in the 2 identical length antennas. In that case pick the one the looks the coolest!

Not sure if you are a truck driver but to give an example of some height limits here in the southwest and west, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and even california have legal truck height limits of 14 ft. The federal size and weight limits only ensure each state must allow 13'6 and gross weight limits up to 80,.000 lbs. Many states allow more height and more weight but there is conditions in some states on weights. So yes you could be legal height in one state but not another but it's up to the driver to know the limits on the routes he travels.

That 45 degree angle nonsense is something that shouldn't be done. Most people really only do it because it looks cool! I've seen some people angle them so far down they are practically horizontal! Problem is you are no longer vertical or horizontal and it does have an effect on receive as well as transmit due to abnormal polarization. It's a vertical antenna, keep it that way. If height is an issue, then go with a shorter antenna.
I ve seen people do the 45 degree thing to and thought "what are you doing that's not doing you any good at all" but for some weird idea they think that makes it do like a beam antenna

"Because we did notice the difference more with the MM-4 model which had the longest electrical length"

All the mobile cb antennas i can think of come in different physical lengths but have the same 1/4wave electrical length,

sirio firestick and other manufacturers make claims like 5/8wave 7/8wave 3/4wave etc to help lighten your wallet but its false advertising / wallet lube,

The only way i see an antenna possibly effecting transmitted AM audio is by presenting a significantly different complex load impedance to the radio/amp that's feeding it,

receiver agc can effect how dynamic an AM signal sounds.

For DX, it isn't going to make much difference at 45 degrees but it will affect local talk some. Rabbipork makes a good point about some trucks having issues with the antenna parallel to the metal part of the cab or stacks where it can affect the tuning. In those cases you do what's necessary.

I've seen some trucks run their antennas completely horizontal. I'm not sure if this is for the new cool look but it will make your antenna directional and mostly forward. This isn't a bad thing if you want to park up on a high hillside and point your signal across the valley below, it's just the least efficient way to run a mobile antenna.

If only a mobile beam antenna was that easy to put up by running a vertical antenna at 45 degree angles or horizontally, we would all be doing it

Mounting a vertical antenna horizontally will cause it have horizontal polarization. The net effect is a loss of RX and TX due to the phase difference of the two polarizations. It may work well long distance on skip; but not so well locally . . .

when i want to cut through better i use my monkey made with the polished whip because it makes my transmision sound brighter but when someone has a high piched speaker i put the anodized black whip back on because it doesn't sound so brite.
so when theres cute sounding girls on the radio and i want to sound hot I put on the
firestick. i had a sky colored antenna but gave it away because they all said it made me sound like i had the blues. now i just use transparent coax so i sound more clear
