Can 2 switching power supplies be connected together to raise the available amps? I have two 33 amp switching supplies and they are both identical was wondering about getting 60 amps if connected together to run a mobile amp indoors or do I need to buy a new power supply? I don't think this can be done but if anyone knows I figure this is the place to ask.

In all honesty, I can't answer your question, but I will say this. I might try connecting _YOUR_ two switching power supplies together, but I ain't connecting _MY_ two power supplies together! You know?

Never done it myself.

With linear amps as an example, they use a combiner circuit to join the output of the two pills in a two pill amp. Wouldn't be surprised if a combiner circuit for this application would be the answer.

I've seen cheap yet effective 70 amp supplies on eBay for very little money.
Perhaps someone here can provide that link.

Ive done it and it worked ok for me but I did it try tryout a big mobile amplifier and didnt do it for long. You have to take a VOM (multimeter and make sure that both supplies are at the exact same voltage and both be powered up at the same time. One other thing that Ive seen happen was the power suply that had the power wires to the amp connected to it had melted the plastic red and black knobs so my buddy had to change his to the Astron style metal posts.

Astron supplies are nice because the have a lug on the back that is there for this purpose and eventhough Ive done this with Pyramids Ide rather use Astron due to there optional lug for doing this and they are built to do this. again I would check to see that volatge is the same on both units even from factory if they were new Ide check this to be safe.

All in all your better off with a bigger supply thats setup and built with being capable of delivering the amperage you need.

good afternoon

I do it all the time....I have 4, 80amp switching power supplies hooked in paralell total of 320 amps available for my Messenger 2 K..dead key 500-1000 and swing to 2000-3000.
I have done it with 55 amp switching power supplies also...for Texas Star DX1600 amps...
I only do it with matching power supplies, same brand , same amp size...
I have had no trouble with them at all

You should be fine I have two 100 amp switchers hooked up. I would try it, most switching supplies will protect themselves if there is something wrong. Just make sure there output is the same voltage.

Post pictures and info on your supply's, some do need sense wires.

I have done this as well. I used to have three Astron 50 amp supplies connected together to run a mobile amp on base several years ago. Some of the Astron supplies, I believe 30 and 50 amp, actually have a circuit designed exactly for this purpose. There is an extra lug on the back of the supply(in addition to the parallel connections) that is used to make a connection between the supplies. Obviously this is done with Astron PS's that are of the same amperage. It worked great.

i learned that doing that you have a risk of over loading on of them.

for example:

You have 2 10amp power supplies we will label one PS A and the second PS B
if PS A is slightly stronger then PS B, PS A may try to overload PS B. get it? i personally would not do it.

As has been said before, it's done all the time without any problems. As long as the voltages are the same, i mean as measured and set not just nominal, there is no problem. Do NOT even try it with unregulated power supplies however. I have seen unregulated supplies oscillate back and forth with each unit trying to supply the full load and then no load at all and vice versa in a wild osciallation.

It sounds like I'm better off just buying a bigger power supply. One of these power supplies is the power for my 257hp and the other is a spare I bought online. These are Mega Watt S-350-12 power supplies from US2US2 on Ebay. I no longer have a camera due to the zoom lens getting stuck it will no longer focus.

I don't know about smoke but I did find that none came out of the camera when I thought I was a camera repair tech and took it apart.............Although now it doesn't do anything:blush: Oh well it was around $100 a year ago so my thought is hey Santa what about a camera?

Cameras have little invisible men in there drawing the pictures, You released that person.
