powerband rfx 75

I was talking with Al from Sparky's and he said that the Uniden 76-78 are unable to produce the same numbers as the cobra 29's. They are also doing something more than the instructions listed in the cbtricks.com because they are seeing unreal numbers of 120w or so from the RFX and I did the RFX modification per item of cbtricks.com and can only get 80 pep. I would like to know what they are doing to produce these kinds of numbers. As far as the SSb radios like the Rangers and such I can see lower numbers as per the previous post but that doesn't explain why the Uniden 76-78 are producing lower numbers supposedly; I have not done this to one yet but my buddy just had his done by Sparky's and it was a Uniden and Al said it was doing dk=14 and pep of 92. So my big question is what are they doing to the cobra board or to the RFX to get those big number like 120w out of a Cobra 29? Whats the big trick, so one know how it is done let us all know. By the way I will get pics up when I get a chance to take pictures and I will show exactly how I hot glued it down and location of the wires. I have a feeling the cap failure they talk about in the cbtricks service bulletin on the RFX if it shows low output or shows power fade during extended talk time is happening to mine. If I talk on it for an extended time the heatsink gets a little warm and the s/rf meter shows the power fading a little but the peak still about the same. I would recommend replacing the c8 to the mylar type or which ever they suggest before installing. Otherwise after installing the RFX it would be a real pain especially since I hot glued the wires coming from the RFX through the 3/8 in the back of radio to keep it from chaffing the wires during the vibration in the truck. Good Luck.

i to was only getting 80 or so watts the only way i have found that if you do the super tune with the exception of what you have to change to do the rfx,.........also i had to do the cap resistor mod aka swing kit with the 1000 uf ............you can look at dtb s web site for the super tune .........and do the rest of what cb tricks says to do and it should work ................i would just do the super tune and then add the rfx.good luck

Tony, did you get the numbers they were talking about after you did the supertune. What was your dk and pep after the super tune and how does the radio actually sound on air or on headphones.

the super tune at DTB's site is the way to go before you ad the rfx75 minus the final swap ..this is what i did to my cobra 29 before adding the the box..im seeing some numbers in the 100 watt range..crystal clear audio..im gonna ad a echo board to get that punch that only an echo board can give..all and all this ad on is great for company drivers who cant have amp boxes or cant run wires to the battery for the bigger radios..

i did 2 different ones and before i did the super tune they only did 80 or so and then i did the tune and the cap mod that they say to do to lower the dk and 1 did 10 dk and swung 135 and the other 15 dk and 140 pep................good luck

you will love the echo idea on them cobras i have 6 all with echo and every one i run i get people mad at because im too loud ...............i have found the trb-1 is my favorite and makes all the difference .......the vortex that al sells are pretty good to.................just my .02

Thanks Tony and Johnecashflo; when I have time I will do the supertune and see what happens to the output. I will post pics as soon as I have time.

Why do you want to make people mad?

i dont its just i like the sound of the audio but i keep getting told to turn it off ..........every time i talk people get mad and tell me to turn that g** damn m f er off and im not being a ass im just talking to friends ...................

I have a Galaxy Saturn and I want to know if anyone has the same that may have installed this on. Will it really boost the watts that one puts out? I have not done too much research on this, saw it today and thought that maybe it might be something good to add to my radio.

There are application notes for several SSB radios. I'm sure it would work if installed properly.

I have one of these on the way. I think I'm going to try it on a new Cobra 29 or 25.

I replaced the capacitor at c42 with the suggested one by cbtricks, but did not do the j36 removal and the results are as follows. dk = 12-14w, pep = 75-80w, and just for kicks I took a RMS reading even though it doesn't mean much it was doing around 38-42 RMS. Now that is quite a bit of RMS and leads me to believe my meters being passive are not getting the full peak number and maybe much higher than my 75-80w reading. It does get pretty warm and the dk goes down when you stand on it.
hey now 38-42 watts awesome thank you for listing that even though it does not mean much?lmao all these guys doing this mod are reading there am radios in pep- pep definition (poor-exaggerated-pathetic)some of you clowns actually think this 10$ transistor is doing 130-140 real watts wow!yes dont use your rms meter to get your true power reading its better to think that your little erf7530 transistor is doing as much power as a TWO PILL 2*2SD1446 AMPLIFIER! get real its not and pep is not for checking your cobra 29 output!but if you really dont want to know your actual output and like your meter to boune around than sure use it.

What's the difference between 38-42 watts RMS and 75-80 watts Pep? Nothing, just bigger and less useful numbers in Pep, that will never tell you as much as those RMS numbers will without a LOT of converting back and forth. If big numbers is the whole point, fine, knock yourself out.
