Predator 10K Antenna Review @

Sorry, I didnʻt mean to use it against you mack. So I have been Avenged. and mis-informed.

I hate it when someone uses my own sarcasm against me.

I will avenge my honor, if you have no patent or copy write of a device then you don't have any weight to throw around so mini you are misinformed.

You can't beat "random" pictures of a radio's meter for proof of signal strength.

Random? Jeez.... if I was trying to mess with ya Mack with random pictures I would have made it a lot more interesting than that :)

For reference: I did a video recording of the testing (continuous and completed all at the same time at the same location) then just took the stills from the video in my editing software. I could have posted the hi-res individual pictures but I thought assembling them in photoshop stacked like that was more interesting to look at and easier for comparison.

When I used a different vehicle I drove to the exact same parking spot and aimed the vehicle in the same direction, etc, etc.

As you guys all know I never claim anything I do is scientific. I definitely try my best to remove variables but if a fly lands on my antenna and farts during one of my tests I can't be held responsible for the variance :)

Speaking of 10K's and monkeys, is there any truth to this claim?

Bulldog Radio Communications Anyone that makes an imitation of any Predator product is a copy cat. Just like the label says: !BEWARE OF IMIATIONS! A few went this route and have failed. Monkey Made in the beginning came pretty close to the Predator design and was told to make the changes or else!Saturday at 4:36am

Think Bulldog just makes this up as he go's....This never happened... besides, Monkey Mades have always used flat-stock on their coils....Kale has always used the round stuff...

...not true

Fair enough so if we're to use these findings "as close to actual" scientific results as we're going to get without spending large amounts of money then the Predator 10-k offers no more performance than any of the other antennas tested there we should make our choice that fits our setups and not base on any claims of the manufacturers as their claims are inflated and in most cases overly exaggerated?

I use the same model predator on my 70 chevy pickup for several years now and I chose it for the fact that other predators I own suited my needs and I discounted any and all hype about antennas and looked at the pure fact that the antenna is very well built and that the more metal exposes to the atmosphere it operates in the better, kinda like the 102'' stainless whip that sadly did not meet my needs and was $50 less expensive but still offers the same performance.

Thank you for taking the time to check the difference in signal strength between several antennas giving the consumer many options without any bias.

SUMMARY

I've tried a lot of antennas over the years from simple magnet mounts, to oil filled antennas, to basic fiberglass whips, to 102" steel whips and I've found that while the difference in actual performance on the air from one antenna to the next may not always be huge on a signal meter, there can be a HUGE difference in the quality of antennas.

When you find yourself looking for an antenna that can handle the power from an amplifier, can tune for a low SWR, and is durable and well made then I'm sure at some point you'll take a good look at the Predator 10K line of antennas.

And when you get down to the bottom line, all of these 'non-scientific' tests/reviews are subjective, not objective. Meaning that while they can be as honest as possible, they are not any sort of guarantee of anything. What may work just dandy for me and my particular situation may work terribly for others. One size never fits all application.

Call Moving On Electronics up in Sydney Oh. Here's the number: 937-394-7338
Ask them about their Monkey Made Round Coil Antenna. Some of us Freight Haulers called them Big John Antenna or Bronco Buster Antenna. i have been using this Round coil Antenna for over 7 yrs. The CB Shop calls it a Monkey Made Round Coil Antenna. Sells for 89.95 I do believe. I have NOT YET tried the 10k Antenna. Maybe i should. JMO.

No where on Monkey Mades site does it show any round coiled antenna's...That aside, the shop your talking about may have some antenna's they call monkey-mades, that have round tubing for the coils, and they are calling Monkey's, simply because they are a open coiled antenna...

From what I have herd, Bronco Buster antenna's are a open coiled antenna similar to the 10K and others, but built by someone other than Monkey Made...(Most likely someone who is local to the shop your talking about)

At any rate...Kale never threatened the folks at Monkey Made to change their design...."IF" that was true, then there's several other company's building antenna's that look like carbon copy's of the Predator 10K he could go after....Tram has the closest looking antenna to the 10K than anyone else, so if Kale had a case, it would be against Tram...

On another note...There are several antenna's that look like carbon copy's of Monkey Mades too. I once had a antenna called Megatron, that looked almost just like a MM...If you put the two side by side, unless you knew which was which, you would think both were MM...

Neither MM or Predator has any kind of design patent on their antenna's so neither would have any recourse trying to keep others from copying their antenna's.

Hey ...
Good thread.

Hey mackmobile43 ...I also have a 70 Chevy C10. Mines a LWB BB402 CST
