Same thing with a lot of the Base rigs as well.
Kraco 2555
Lafayette 805-B
Marco Excalibur MK-II
Midland 560
CRT Hercule.
Do some of these radios look like a few you have seen here in the U.S.
?

Oh And I have to post just one more radio....the one that gets more comments than any other.
As Butt Fuzz ( member here) Has said in the past..
..
There IS a story behind (no pun intended) THAT radio....
YouTube - ‪Galaxy Uranus CB Radio Release Candidate‬‏

( the radio posted below is a REAL Galaxy Uranus, the one in the u tube video is..)

(some one else here on the forum bought the radio from him....just can not remember who.....)

The Uranus and RCI-2900 are probably the two biggest POS radios in my collection, great conversation pieces though.

RCI-2900

I passed one of these up about 15 years ago and I am glad I did! I knew nothing about it and sticked with my gut instinct to leave it! < I was!
Seems this chassis size is real common, just about the same as a Cobra 148 GTL and speaking of this, the 148 is arguably the best all around rig ever.... and the Cobra 2000 base!
About the President line, is there any more to the history as sometime in the past Uniden supplied many parts to all sorts of brands, then produced their own radios and changed the name to Uniden as a brand.

About the 4900B,
I've owned one now for about 14yrs and after going through it & tuning it properly, adding an MFJ-299 desk mic, it's been a great rig. I have many other hf bases I use but for 10/11/12 meters, it's a fun radio to use and looks pretty to visitors to my shack.
Thanks,
Rich

The fatal flaw was the Mic wiring.
Every dead one that i know of died the same death, plug in the wrong aftermarket Mic, and fry the CPU.
The Mic Supplied with the radio had many functions that is why it was powered from the radio.
I read the owners manual and there was NO warning in the book about using another mic..... Major Mistake.
i like the look...reminds me of the TS 570 Kenwoods.

The features were amazing.
23.815 Mhz to 30.555 Mhz Continuous Coverage (Requires Export Mod)
Single Chip Microprocessor Controller (LC72338)
Clarifier Control Tracks Both Transmit And Receive (SSB Approx. 40Khz)
Programmable Memory Function (Stores Favorite Frequencies)
Backlit Liquid Crystal Display (Frequency, Channel, Functions Menu)
Digital Meter Scale Displays Signal, Power Output, SWR and Modulation
Dual Watch Mode (Allows Monitoring Two Freq. Simultaneously)
Red/Green Transmit/Receive LED Indicator
Two Antenna Connectors on Rear Panel, Push Button Front Panel Select
Noise Blanker/Automatic Noise Limiter
Roger Beep (Switchable )
Variable Mic Gain Control
Variable Receive RF Gain Control
AM/FM/USB/LSB Operation
25 Watts Variable RF Output Power SSB (2SC2166 X1 - 2SC1969 X2)
10-15 Watts Variable RF Output Power AM (2SC2166 X1 - 2SC1969 X2)
Four Step Dimmer lamp Control
Split Frequency Capability for Repeater Use
Dual Power - 120VAC Operation or 13.8 VDC Operation
DTMF Page Mode (Touch Tone Paging)
DTMF Auto Reply Function (Touch Tone Auto Signaling)
DTMF Coded Squelch Operation (Receiver Muted Until Special DTMF Received)
DTMF Encoder Pad (Allows Direct DTMF Frequency Entry)
5 Pin DIN Jack on the Back Panel for PACKET Radio
Scan Feature
Automatic Squelch control
Channel 9/19 feature
The Radio also featured a Jack on the Back that you could plug a Outboard Analog S Meter into if you did not like the built in Digital S Meter ( like the Yaesu FT 897 Radios)
Some one should get Maycom Co in S Korea to build these again, I think it would prove to be a Good Radio.
Add protection on the CPU from the Mic error, maybe a wide/narrow filter option, A cooling fan for the radio/power supply..this thing would blow the new ranger "base" out of the water.

I agree with you 100% I'd love to get my hands on one of those radios. Even today, it would be a winner!!! It's features are superb!

Like I said, love mine and it does remind me of a Kenwood and the features are many. Maybe remake it with diode protection which is something I'm going to look into for the mic wiring and see how it can be done. When I do use it I always get unsolicited positive comments on the audio in all modes and good signal.
Will be in my shack for years to come.

Optoisolators should be a good help on the mike socket. They are commonly used by hobbiests on parallel port dev boards
