I never return anything that I feel can be remedied on my own. A noisy fan or RF noise would be among those problems. I absolutely would return an expensive malfunctioning radio under warranty, but when reasonably curable problems arise on something like this, the seal sticker won’t last long with my prying hands. Reckless, maybe, but you usually gain some knowledge when you fail. I always feel that’s worth something. IMO the satisfaction you have with a successful DIY will outweigh the usual argumentative process of obtaining a RMA. I never buy extended warranties anymore either. In my past experience none of them have ever paid off. My own DIY insurance costs tally far less.
