It appears a lot of folks use RG6 or RG59 with their scanner antennas. If a scanner recommends 50 ohms, how much does the 75 ohm coax affect performance if about 50' in length?
From what I can tell, the loss due to the slight impedance mismatch is negligible in scanner operations. That right?
The loss due to the impedance difference in the cable is far less than the losses from high SWR due to the antenna being asked to cover such a wide bandwidth and that loss is pretty much negligible itself. IOW.....don't worry about it. High quality RG-6 is used all the time for receiving antennas even on the HF bands but some BIG amateur contest stations that run separate receiving antennas.
