Question about amp??

Nomad is correct, it is money and if that is what you want and you got it to burn, its yours to burn.

345 is correct that you over build, and make dam sure you got all your ducks in a row and it will last.
But you got to cover all the bases.

The statement that 100 watts is all you need I disagree with.
Yes depending on what band, and depending on band conditions you can make lots of contacts.
But other times 100 watts don't cut the mustard.
If 100 watts was all you ever needed, all the company's that build legit HF amps would not be around.
My Humble Opinion is that for a every day mobile some were between 300 to 400 watts is about all I want to deal with anymore.

I agree with what you are saying, my statement if you have money to burn.
Comp amps are like comp cars.
The staple diet for years has been Toshiba 2879's, the gold standard for shootouts.
But as the supply is depleted, all the guys are gonna have to accept something else.
Will HG fill the void?
Don't know yet.
And yes there will always be guys going AC and big steel toobs.
If ya got it to burn.
Like the V Dub with 30 PSI of Boost.
For a daily driver......
I don't recommend.

And crappy antenna's because they think its all about power... :)

Some will eventually get tired if the rf burns and learn something. I learned a lot because I wanted more power. The guys that run 100 watts into the latest fad antenna and say it "works great" are really missing out on the fun. Then they piss and moan because the bands are so horrible now.

That's when you turn the radio off and go do something else.
case in point

Not quite. I know what works and use it, nothing more than a dipole is all I need but I will have a hex or cobweb someday when I feel ambitious.

$1600 for the Amp, couple 3 Alternators plus batterys plus big wire plus big coax plus puck mount(s) plus big antenna(s)
Plus a lot of hard work mounting and wiring it all.
And keeping your duckies all lined up is just too much work.
Unless you are shooting for sub 8 second quarter miles.
It is a passion thing, and I have gotten lazy in my old age.
And I still say 100 watts ain't always enough.
And again I am back quiet, reading the mail.

put a switch to turn the amp off on the 98 and amp choices are numerous. but the 98 isn't the best choice for running boxes.
