Yes I am sure the marketing guys at Yaesu had their ear to the ground in the marketing of the 101 radios.
I had a contact inside Yaesu, that said that 30 to 40 percent of the 101 radios where going to other than the ham market. So I am sure there was bunch of the radios going to the 11 meter band. Which wasn't a really bad thing since the radios where cleaner, and introduced amateur radio to the 11 meter guys.
