You most likly can realign it yourself an get it pretty decent... at least alot better than it is now.
The main things you will need is a second radio... perferably a handheld and a tuning screwdriver. A tuning screwdriver is just a small screwdriver thats made of plastic. ( there are a few different kinds with metal/ceramic tips). Anyhow thats what you need. Tuning a radios is crazy hard with a metal screwdriver... everytime the metal screwriver touches the tuning slug of a coil ( center part you adjust up or down) it actually becomes part of the tuning slug ... basically it will throw your tuning right off....... you may get it ajusted good when the screwdriver is touching the slug..... but as soon as you remove the screwdriver the tx/rx power drops.
Never use a metal screwriver.... some are better than others but its best to just not use one. Ones with metal tips designed for the job are fine.
You can make a tuning screwdriver from an old plastic pen.... just take the pen apart and melt one end of the plastic tube down to a point or smaller so you can get it in the slot of the slug...... then get a file or something and file the tip into a flat screwdriver point the right size to fit in the slug.
Now the second radio..... put both of the radios on channel 20. Turn the squelch down and the volume of of the radio being worked on. The main coils to adjust for RX are colored in alot of radios... you might have 3.... maybey white... blue an black.
Anyhow the trick to getting the rx back up is to listen while your watching your TX/RX meter.
Key the second radio (transmit with it) look at your signal meter ( tx/rx meter)... what you don't want to see at the beginning of doing this is full bars on your meter... try to lower the signal power going into or getting into the radio you want to fix if its too high by removing the antenna going into it or whatever you can. Adjust the coils while watching the signal meter and keying the second radio.
If your seeing a couple of bars on the signal meter or if you can see the needle move up about half way ( for analog meter) your in a good spot to start tuning.
What your doing is using the second radio as a signal generator and then "tuning" in your rx to that freqency or signal.
Key the radio your working on...make sure it hooked up to a watt meter ( for now)...
To find the rx coils...Take a small metal scredriver and touch it to the inside tuning slug of some coils while you are keying the mic and watching the watt meter..... when the screwriver goes inside a TX coil.... the output power on the watt meter will drop..... go around the radio and find which coils are tx coils..... put a small mark on them with a marker.
The other coils will adjust your RX .
Now you found alot of the rx coils you can begin retuning them.... key the second radio... make sure the signal meter( on the radio your working on) is in a good spot so you can see an increase or decrease in rx power.
Adjust those rx coils you found and watch the signal meter on the radio.... just adjust the coils so the signal meter increases ....basically your tuning the radio into the signal your generating on the second radio.
You need a signal to align the radio with.... thats what the other radio is for.
Very easy to do..... that is if I explained this right LOL
