QYT KT-8900D Dual Band Mini Radio

Sorry to break into your conversation guys. I'm new on this forum and also new to the QYT 8900. I ordered mine from Amazon a few weeks ago and as shown, the manual sucks. Very little info available on the operation of it online either.

When I press the monitor button, the squelch opens and stays open unless there is an active conversion on a channel. The same when scanning channels. When not in the monitor mode, I can see the scan stop, and the green activity light glowing, but no sound coming through. I also noticed that sometimes I can hear a faint conversation behind the squelch static.

I guess my question is - is my radio screwed? I know this is a cheap radio and won't perform like my kenwood, but I like the size because I can fit it easily in my truck.

Any help will be appreciated!
Matt

Hello Wil. Did you find the answer to this please, as I have the same problem?

Thank you,

Colin

I received a QYT KT-8900 TODAY AND AM TRYING TO USE IT WITH MY BAOFENG HAND HELD.

I have 2 frequencies assigned to both radios. 402.225 and 457.625 When I broadcast from my Baofeng hand held the QYT KT-8900 picks up my voice just fine. Comes across loud and clear. If I try to transmit from my QYT to my Baofeng when I press the PTT button all that I hear is a bunch of static and my voice cannot be heard at all on the Baofeng handheld. Any advice that anyone could give me to help me out, I would really appreciate it. I am a newbie, so be nice! LOL.

I have 2 of them. One in a go box, and the other in the shack. They have done well, easy to manually program, and work well with Chirp programming software. About a year ago I had to replace the one in the shack with something else, although it did not break down. Someone started using pagers in our area and the radio does not have sufficient filtering to reject the horrible bleed over.
Until then I had not found anything about which to complain.
