Radio Frequency Interference to Amateur Radio Bands

Typical posturing.

Just stick with it and continue to document. Once you exhaust the commissions hoops, call the ARRL and initiate an official RFI complaint.

It won't happen overnight, but you will prevail.

Just keep after it, you are taking the right steps, you just have to hang in there.

Keep rolling with it.

Update on RFI

Well we did get 6 power line poles worked for RFI.
This was with the help of Public Service Commission of West Virginia.
At this point my case was closed and as soon as the Commission closed
it Potomac Edison started refusing to do any more repairs for RFI stating
they fulfilled the repair order with Public Service Commission. So I write
back to the Commission they tell me that when the case is closed it can
not be reopened? Really!! I have now made contact with the FCC and ARRL.
I have sent all e-mails video and photos to ARRL and they have sent
Potomac Edison out lining the problem at this time I am waiting to see
the reply from Potomac Edison .

Will post updates soon

Hope you get some relief, I never did at my last two locations in Indiana.

Good luck Al.

RFI update!

Well a letter was sent to Potomac Edison but I have been told they have
60 days to respond ? At this point I can not use my radio at home as the
RFI is now S7 or higher on most bands. I did contact Public Service Commission of West Virginia and was told I can not open a new case!
I think i'll get out and do a long video showing just how bad the RFI is
around here . It seems like most of the poles have a problem.

I had a RFI problem about 30 years ago and was pretty sure it was a utility problem. I called our public utility district who supplied our power and they sent out a supervisor the next day to listen to my shortwave radios. After listening and agreeing with me that it was their system that was probably causing the noise he took me with him around the neighborhood until we located the problem! It was a guy wire to a pole that was radiating a signal. The next day they sent out a crew and the noise problem was eliminated. That's the great thing about consumer owned utility systems!

Potomac Edison

Well I did hear Potomac Edison sent a letter back to ARRL.
I am trying to get a copy of it from what I got Potomac Edison
stated they do not have to work with any ( CB radio club )
I hope I can get a copy of this.

Time to call the local TV station and tell them how a licensed amateur radio operator is being screwed over by big business that makes it impossible for him to enjoy his hobby part of which includes providing emergency communications for his community in the event of storms etc. Not joking on this BTW.

RFI

Get one of those manon the street guys to come check out your situation. Or go to the public access channels and get one of them to do alocal spot. I know from experience that the public utilities, HOA's taht are out of control watch for this stuff on public access. Makes them look bad.

Radio Frequency Interference

Hello in my ongoing problem with Potomac Edison and power line RFI.
I had West Virginia Public Service Commission working with me last
year in the fall they had closed my case based on a letter from Potomac Edison ? After trying to get it reopened many times I gave up and
made contact with ARRL at this point a letter was sent to Potomac Edison.
this letter got completely passed over no response from Potomac Edison.
I then made a copy of this and sent it to West Virginia Public Service Commission and the man who had come out from Potomac Edison.
Well they came out of the wood work Mr. Mcginnis who was doing
the work of finding my noise problems had not seen this letter till I
had sent it to him? It was sent to his office and his Boss! So now
we get him back out finding 2 poles making noise he puts a work order
in for ( ONE OF TWO? ) poles found then sends a letter to ARRL stating
all repairs are done? Repairs were done yes but not all repaired and
I still have RFI from ( TWO ) poles. Now I send a new e-mail about line
noise to Mr. Mcginnis and he wants to know at what level am I wiped out.
Also he go's on to say he's got no access to the RFI equipment ? Then go's
on and remarks he don't know when he'll get the equipment back I have asked
the ARRL to push this up to the FCC. As I still have S 5 to S 9 noise level.

Power line nose update

Well now i have the FCC working on this and Potomac Edison
has blocked me from E-Mails and Phones. They never responded
to the letter from ARRL. To date 12 poles needed work some have
not been repaired and last check i have just 4 locations that need
more work. One location is going to be real fun as a pair of
transformers are in a homeowners yard they want Potomac Edison
to move them. I have noise from them and have talked to homeowners
and have been told they hear them buzzing when sitting out front?
Potomac Edison was to made repairs here back in March but has
put it off over and over ( The lady at this home wants them noisy
transformers out of her yard!) Potomac Edison keeps saying the
yard is to wet. It is not i have checked this myself ?

Hello had Potomac Edison and Public Service Commission Of West Virginia
come out on Aug. 26 2023
. A pole was looked at and was to be fixed in
48 hr of visit well here it is Sept 1 and no repairs have been done!
I have sent e-mails this past week to Public Service Commission Of West Virginia and have had no contact yet?

My question is - how did you get them to come out on Aug.26,2023 - that would be physically impossible unless you were driving Doc Jones Delorean..:p

All that the homeowner has to do is tell the electric company that there is a electric company transformer in her backyard that is shooting out sparks and the electric company will be there in a matter of hours with a new transformer.
As far as getting the electric company to move the transformer - I don't see it happening.. The electric company had to get a right of way to put in the electric line and the transformer and pad. Once the right of way has been signed - there is very little you can do to get it moved, other then paying for all the fees associated with the move.
