Well being a neighbor of the member who posted about sending his radio to radioactive and getting it back nonfunctional. Long story short he has a functioning radio for the time being.
I have the Connex 3300 HP-ZX in question. Took off the cover and brought up cbtricks.com to have a look-see at the innards of this contraption. Lo and behold I get to the part about L33 in the TX alignment and check this out. This is what L33 looks like in a functioning radio, photo from cbtricks.com :

Looks like a trimmer pot is missing too (next to the slugless coil). From your picture it looks like the insulation material behind two transitors in the chassis are shorted to the case, (it could just be the color, a reflection in the photo, too). Or maybe it's insulated grease on there?

Alrighty then
While I'm at it, what is that coil for?
I was thinking that in some radios that you could spread certain coils to get more output.

Spreading that coil in ANY radio will effectively disable the 54mhz trap circuit. If disabled, it allows the 2nd harmonic ('54mhz') to pass through the radio's output. This mod may show more power output on a output meter; but that extra power isn't even on the channel you are using. It wastes power too. Meters are dumb and cannot tell the difference of what freq's are being passed through it. It is probably one of the stupidest mods ever conceived, if not the stupidest it is right up there at the top.

Then you can really impress people by running that radio into a class C amplifier.

Why to you think they call it "wack pack" anyway? Let's consult the Urban Dictionary for the meaning of "wack" shall we?

WACK

1) Lame, sorry ass, aint even legit
2) To Je*k off
3) Something that just plain sucks, or isn't cool at all. Lame.
4) To be of low or dubious quality.

Aptly named isn't it? So once and for all you guys who have this service performed on your radios expecting RadioActive's Wack Pack or Super Wack Pack to be anything of quality...Well, you just got owned sucker.

You might as well be going to the auto shop that advertises a "Tune up your car so it won't run worth a damn if it runs at all service" special. Oh yea...sounds like something I need. Don't be surprised if you get what you pay for ;)

wack job

It is time for a lawyer to send them a letter or a radio replacement
