Ranger 2980 adjustments

Glad you got it working.
Yes, you did the right thing by backing it down some, it should last you a while like that.

I like the 2980. I picked it up a year or so ago and just looking at it now. There is some noise toy that is connected to the mic connector and board that ill be pulling out. No use for the theme of "the good bad and the ugly" here. :)

Replace all the 10v and 16v caps in it and it'll last for years to come.

10v caps lifespan is around 15 years.
16v caps lifespan is around 20 years.
25v caps lifespan is around 30/35yrs.
Etc...you get the point. But it really depends on how much abuse it went through during the years of use and how long it was in storage.

The above is not written in stone, just my observations on these old rigs.

Coax question. I just put up a new Sirio monsoon base antenna with 100’ of rg8u coax testing with myMFJ antenna analyzer shows 1.4 swr at 26.965mhz and a 1.1 at 27.405 mhz . When I checked the ohms it’s steady a 30 ohms across the entire bandwidth.
  • @ Geoexplorer69:
Is 30 ohms worth worrying about in a 100’ run of rg8u ?
