Ranger RCI 2950 DX

Hi I’ve just purchased a
Ranger RCI 2950 Dx from an Auction site
AM /FM / RX TX seem fine USB RX also is ok but a lot Quiter LSB hard to clarify and TX is of very quite with volume turned up Also the Antenna pl259 Adapter on
Rear of the radio is loose
Does anyone who owns a similar radio or have had issues have any thoughts what might be wrong

Sounds like your radio just needs a good alignment which is common if it's only been converted.

The so239 on the rear is also a common issue in which a deep socket can quickly remedy.

Is it possible to tell the Age of this radio via the serial number Also someone Else mentioned on Facebook it could A CPU issue .

I got mine in 2006 or 2007. It's a black face with green numbers (inverse of yours) and I have the newer microphone.

So that would make it sometime between the mid 90's and then. I'm not sure exactly when they started the DX change over, but I have an earlier black faced one.

Yep, like El Dorado said, take to a competent tech for a full alignment. Decent radios.

Best I remember their serial-number scheme the letter "T" indicates the Taiwan factory. Next digit 4 should mean 2004, next two digits 12 should mean December. The 142nd radio made that month.

This means it has the bipolar final and driver transistors, and not the stupidly fragile MOSFET parts they have used since 2006-2007.

Clearly a "sweet spot" radio from its production pedigree. With any luck alignment will clear up the functional issues. That's the first thing to try before suspecting a failed component. Just gotta have the tools to set the radio's internal frequency adjustments.

i Appreciate you for correcting my post that’s a clean looking radio if indeed it’s a 2004 model that would
make it 20 years old , I was aware there was a newer version of that model which had an Easier readable display so it’s definitely a keeper just to find a capable tech to check it over . Cheers and 73’s

Yes that Newer version had a much Easier display you could read and the buttons were on the side of the microphone
