RCI-2950CD owners chime in.. new owner here

How does one work split on a 2950? I must have missed that button.
It's been a while but I think you put the radio in manual mode (man button) then hit the split button. You should see a +/- indicating the direction of the split. You have to program the radio for the amount of split you want. The following is directly from a 29xx dx manual.

Chapter 7 Offset Frequency Operation

The split frequency function offsets the transmitter frequency either above or below the receiver frequency by a user-programmable amount. This is necessary for operating on FM repeaters. In the following example, the programming of a 1 MHz offset will be described. Before attempting to program the offset frequency, ensure that the radio is operating in the manual mode by pressing the MAN key. NOTE: FM repeaters may require that a sub-audible CTCSS tone be transmitted to gain access to the repeater. The RCI-2950DX/2970DX-150 can be equipped with an optional CTCSS encoder. TO PROGRAM TX OFFSET: 1. Press the PRG (Program) key. 2. Press the SPLIT key. The LCD display will indicate 00000 with PRG and SPLIT showing in the lower left-hand corner of the display. 3. Using the SHF key and the UP and DOWN arrows as described earlier, program the display to read 10000. 4. Press ENT. A 1 MHz offset has now been programmed into the radio. 5. Return the radio to manual operation by pressing the MAN key. 6. Using the SHF key and the UP and DOWN arrows as described previously, set the radio to the desired receive frequency. 7. Press SPLIT. Either "SPLIT+" or "SPLIT-" will be displayed in the lower right corner of the display. If "SPLIT+" is displayed, the transmitter will be offset 1 MHz above the receive frequency when keyed. If "SPLIT-" is displayed, the transmitter will be offset 1 MHz below the receive frequency. When the transmitter is keyed, the frequency display will change to show the frequency being transmitted

I'll be danged. I just pulled one down and there is a split button. I guess this is what its like to get old and forgetful.
 
I like my 2950 CD. Bought it new from Radio Shop Supply in CALIFORNIA. I got a receiver upgrade, alignment, and opened clarifier. These radios are pretty stable on SSB but they do have slight Drift from time to time. The open clarifier is nice because you can compensate for that.
As far as the microphone I would not use the factory one it does not have enough audio on SSB.
I find my road devil works really good omy old silver eagle if using in the house.

Got mine today, was $295 shipped. Had E-Chip in baggie. Took only like 5 minutes to install..

Talked on 19 for about 12 miles and 38LSB about 65 miles.. very happy thus far. On 38 LSB they said I sounded really good.

I didn't do anything but the EChip, no pot turning..

Works well with power knob down at like 7:30 for AM and up at noon for SSB with my TS350 also..

I plan on running just as a base in my house so hopefully drift won't become an issue

I also messaged the Ranger repair center (the Radio Shop) in Ontario, California and they said doing the E-Chip mod install on the 2950CD will not void the warranty.. (y) (I had to ask)..

Does have normal static (white) noise, but of you can balance the RF gain and squelch to cut it back it works well to only let stations in..

I like the factory mic thus far though entertaining the DM452 power mic for $30..

Anyone know how to kill the beep function to keep the beep from when you push buttons?

Does the RF Power knob adjust SSB output ? It’s been a long time since I had a 2950 (first on I had was labeled Mirage) and I seem to recall the SSB output power was not affected by that knob...only AM power. Do you see less SSB power output with the RF Power control throttled back ?

Yes. Less SSB swing when dialed back. AM has lower DK when dialed down as well.

Ok, I did some research and the SSB power output control was disabled if you removed the “mod limiter” Q32 in the old radios. Not sure if thats the same with the newer radios and I would not recommend removing that circuit, but that’s what I was trying to recall. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
