Good morning everyone.. This is my first time to the Forum. I am interested on any feedback anyone has had with these 2 radios.

Thanks in advance.. Happy memorial day! :D

Both of these radios. Work ok. 2980WX is an older chassis. Your best bet would be to find a 2985DX. But if Not the Galaxy 2517 or 2980 are both good radios. As long as they are tuned and aligned properly.

Thanks NorthStar... I'm doing research for a friend of mine and he will be buying one brand new... I tried to sell him on a Ranger 6900 and he loves the way mine sounds... But he wants a Big radio on his desk and mate it with an X-Force XT-40012 I believe it is...

I know that Galaxy uses the RCI boards in their radio's and couldn't see how there would be much of a difference in the 2, I know they look like their alike in alot of ways that's for sure.

He better invest into a good low pass filter to so that the xforce don't interferee with his neighbors on the whole block.

LOL! Yeah... Potent Linear I know... Fortunately he is in the same shape I am... We both live on 20+ acres in the country... Nothing to interfere with but the Electric fence for the animals! :P

Yeah... I'm sure the output has to be quite vigorous that's for sure. I'm not sure what his dead key will be for that Radio/Linear and all that jazz... But when he orders it I am sure they will set him up fine.

hello. i am currently running a rci 2980wx with a astatic silver k eagle mic and a klv station 550 amplifier. with this setup i am peaking around 400 watts on ssb and i do not even interupt my own cordless phone. the cable tv gets no interference at all either. what antenna is he running? oi used to run the a99 splatter stick and i had all kinds of tvi problems and when i switched to a maco 5/8 that cleared most of it up and when i switched to the beam it cleared it up all the way. the 2980 with the klv preamp has pretty good receive. i do not even get a s unit of static with it on and klv has never been known for their high grade pre amps. anywho they are a darn nice radio and i would reccomend them to anyone. btw i do beleive that the freq range is different between the 2517 and the 2980. the 2517 goes down to 26.000 and the 2980 goes down to 24.000. someone please correct me if i am wrong on the 2517 stats. hope this helps

Thanks 123... I appreciate that... And yes that helps much. We both run Imax 2000's and love them to death. As far as your Amp... What are you seeing peak on AM??

Reason I ask was because I just posted a Thread today on the 550 and was wondering what they were all about.

The 2980 seems to be the better radio thus far... I emailed Bob's CB today and ask him for his reccomendation... I told him Big,Loud and something that sounded very, very nice...

well i see around 300-400 on am depends how hard ya drive it. but usually the diffrence between 300 and 400 watts you will not see on an s meter. i usually drive it with 2 swingin 5 rms and it drives nicely. i personally have never owned an imax 2000 my omni is the maco v5/8 and the amp rpeforms nicely with the raker and the omni

Personally for a transistor amp, I prefer one with a decent bias circuit. If he's looking for something like a 4x2879, you can get 650+ out of a Texas Star 500V with some mods and decent drive. I have one that Justin did up for me. He cleaned it up so it's real nice and linear (I use it on SSB, too).

amp for radio

i have hard bad thing aobut when some one put a texas star or a x-force ,davemade, fatboy moblie amp in hous ewith a power supply . iwas alway told moble amps were made for jus that the moble they dont hav ethe filtering a base amp has ( this is what i was told by radio shop owners and radio service techs) i would recomed something base that like klv 350 ,400, 550 rather than a mobile amp. I dont thing your neighbor would like to hear u in thier toaster or electric tooth brush  but if moble amp is all u can run out the house definitly get a filter for a possible tvi
