RCI 2995

Hey guy, Hope you enjoy the 2995. Probably what I would get if I was in the market for an export base.

Ranger's website states it's good for 150 watts p.e.p. all modes. On am you'll probably want to see what the highest power it will key, and thing swing up to the 150 watts. That's a maximum setting now. So that might be like a key of 75 watts, swinging to 150. You want a big swing, that's where big LOUDNESS to your audio comes from....along with at or near 100% modulation.

So just wait until the meter comes in and then you can see what she'll do.

I currently have a 100W Galaxy DX 94HP on order with them (Walcott) to go mobile with. Looking forward to that baby showing up.

Good luck

Thanks wire weasel, sounds good to me. i borrowed a meter and it showed useing variable 25 deadkey and swing was 50 watts its a new radio has the seal on side that says wallcott cb. And a 100 watts on ssb they said, that they did a tune up. So i think that the meters wrong. will post when new meter comes in. Thanks

I think the alignment sheet says that radio should have a max dead key of 50 watts, a variable range of 8-40 is good. After a proper alignment and tune 180-200 watts peak is not out of the question. With a dead key of 50 or more watts that radio will run hot and put a strain on the power supply.

I have had 2,sold one still have the other.

Set you key at 40 to 50 watts on high and let it go,anything much lower then that will cause your quality of audio to suffer. This radio is not going to be an audio monster like the Galaxy Saturn Turbo was nor was it meant to be.

You should see around 150 to 200 watts AM ( mine talks around 150 to 175 as do most of em ) and around 125 to 150 ( mine is around 150 ) SSB from one that's setup to be clean. You see anymore than that then most likely the radio has been clipped/tuned the wrong way and will sound like poo on SSB. Most techs only tune these things ( or any other export radio for that matter ) up on AM just to get those big...oh wow dosy watts and dont touch the SSB so you will know the first time to try and talk SSB if it was done well or quickly!

You will not hurt the power supply running a high (50 watts but no more ) key on these radio and they will not get hot, that's what the little fan built inside the radio is for. The one i got 3 years ago is owned by a friend who has ran the radio at a 50 watt key ever since he got it from me and the radio still works just as it did when new. And believe me. This guy is long winded so if it were going to blow up then it would have by now! I also run mine at a 50 watt key and so do 2 other guys that i know and none of us has had a single problem but........these radios are all well tuned by a professional......you get one tuned by Joe blow and i would not be surprised to see it start blowing smoke for real!

Remember:regardless of what you have been told. Big swinging like a windshield wiper radios are not the way to have a good sounding radio but rather a good way to have a shatty sounding one, you try that stuff on a 2995 and i guarantee you it will sound like crap!

Thanks for all the help guys, info is allways welcome the more the better lol. I dont care for bad audio, but i like clean clear audio. I have heard some nasty sounding radios over the years (24yrs) of talking. So im allways learning everyday. Thanks
