There is several reasons behind it. One the new changes to the 2290. Second is cost and availability. And third I am told not much performance difference.
They are still making 2290's but Toshiba has changed material they are using to manufacture them which has caused the price to increase a few bucks a pill.
We will have to see how the "new" 2290/2879 transistors are going to hold up, if what I am hearing is true, they might not be as rugged as the "old" build.
1446`s are really not all that bad.
2 2879 would get that radio justa hammerin!!! I would deffinately pay the few bucks more. I wasent aware of these finals materials changing but did notice a few places prices going up on them. I see no problem with them using 1446 transistors I meen look at half the amps made there using them either as primary finals or as drivers atleast.
Coax question. I just put up a new Sirio monsoon base antenna with 100’ of rg8u coax testing with myMFJ antenna analyzer shows 1.4 swr at 26.965mhz and a 1.1 at 27.405 mhz . When I checked the ohms it’s steady a 30 ohms across the entire bandwidth.
