Etown,Pa.
In the market for a high power export and it's narrowed to the 2970N2 or Galaxy 98vhp. Can anyone with experience with both share the pros and cons? Do Galaxy's still drift on ssb? I had a gen 1 2950 years ago and had good luck with it until it started to flake out after about 20 years. The Galaxy has more extra's but I think the RCI is a more stable unit on ssb? Usage will be mostly 10 meters. Please advise, thanx.

I was leaning towards the 2970N2 myself because 2 techs said that over the 98 because of the drift..

Both use the 8 mosfets..

I too have the N2. Never had a 98 but have had one Galaxy, 959, and it drifted like a sailboat. The Ranger is solid on SSB.

I’ve owned the 99v2 since mid-point 2014. Same as the 98vhp, but without the amp.

Great AM radio, TX & RX. Several times across tech bench after bouncing thru oilfield. Nothing changed. (A good friend has a 959. Same experience. Wonderful sound).

SSB? Not in “great” category.

Were I starting today it would be the Ranger 2970-N2.

And a West Mountain Radio ClearSpeaker behind it or any other; (see comments & tips by Jay in the Mojave).

.

I know little to nothing about "exports" but one thing I do know is I would take a Ranger over the other if I was in the market. Now honestly you would be better off getting a Kenwood TS-50 over both of those.
Only have 10m privileges for now so that would be alot of wasted radio for me.

If you use Side Band, the nine eight will drift.
