I just pulled a Realistic TRC-419 out of a 69 or 70 VW, and am looking for a user manual. I have searched to the end (lol), of the internet, and the only thing I can find is the service manual. It doesn't tell how to actually use the radio, just how to service it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Harley Guy

Make your own - seriously!

Turn this knob, you get this...
Turn this knob, you get that...
Push this to get here...
Rotate This to go there...
Press This and Touch That once you arrived to the Channel you want to store...
Pull This Pin...Then when Display begins to Flash remove lever and in a lunging motion throw the device towards the operator...By Decreasing the Distance you operate the Microphone Handset device from your Mouth - this should increase Modulation....

Sometimes it is better to use your own wits...than to use the Foreign language interpretation of a interpreted English language manual that the "interpreter" had a problem using phrases and got confused with their metaphorical meaning...including their typos...

"...When you obtain a signal

Use Volume knob down from way up and then using opposite clock motion turn RF Gain Knob (sown in Fig 2b.)"

Sigh...

Since it's a Realistic, they've not honored their Warranty for several years - but who's counting...

Feel free to use the On-Screen display to help locate the Controls...

Welcome to Babylon...

LOL, you are right about the foreign language interpretation of manuals. I'm sure I will be able to figure out how to make it work. My only question was on setting the memory buttons, but as soon as I get it cleaned up and wired it shouldn't be too hard to figure it out.

My best guess would be to press the MEM button and one of the M buttons at the same time to store whatever channel your radio set on. Many AM/FM car radios use that similar logic. Anyway, there are only a few other possible combinations to try. I’m positive you will figure it out quickly. Also, you will need to hook the orange wire to a continuous 12v source. Otherwise you will lose those memory settings every time you turn the radio off.

Well, sorry to see you didn't get a manual - for the Radio outlasts the Manual or the former operators' desire to use it.

There have been incidents that have erupted into flame fests on eBay because once purchased if not supplied it's kinda hard to testify against yourself....shows In the "star ratings" and is not easily hidden. So I can understand the wishes to have a manual - but as far as I can tell even Radio Shack on-line has not provided much information or even data about their lines of radio equipment - so even they abandon their own.

You can try and find it at Radio Shack on-line store but many cases they will refer you to an External link to search and that may not even have the manual you're looking for. If it helps any, they're pretty much bare shelves...like everyone else looking for Toilet Paper alternatives...

So to help, all I know for Power hook up is -

Orange is your Battery Keep supply - Constant 12V to keep Memory alive,
  • Uses 1 Amp Fuse

Red is for the Power to Radio OFF/ON Volume - Radio Operation.
  • Uses 2 Amp Fuse
