Has anyone experienced this receive preamp that uses a 2N5109? Sold online in 2 versions: with and without relays.
I ordered one without relays and intend to install it when I replace my coax. I'll figure out something to take it out on xmit maybe another RF Keying board by nomad (they are handy).
Datasheet for the 2n5109 shows: 400mA max Base and Collector current; 40v max Collector with 20v max Emitter V for a total 1W max dissipation. Apparently, 2n5109's get hot. (Melt snow?) I noted the PCB itself is marked "9-12 volts" nowhere near the 40 / 20 datasheet max V for the 5109.
Found reference to circuit credit for W7IUV claiming 20db gain at 13vdc.
Will try this and report back soon.
