Reclaim LSB 16

THANKSGIVING WEEK-END LSB 16 NET: Saturday, Nov. 30th and Sunday, Dec. 1st

The interest is there, so let's do an LSB 16 net from noon eastern/11:00A.M. central/9:00A.M. pacific on Saturday, November 30th through 6:00P.M. eastern/5:00P.M. central/3:00P.M. pacific on Sunday, December 1st. Let's aim for using the top of each hour to hail other stations. Let's also encourage use of LSB 23 as the channel to switch to in the event LSB 16 gets too cluttered or bleed-over affects your ears.

Tune those radios, check your SWRS and make yourself heard on LSB 16!

Gonna bring out my oldie Kraco 23 channel SSB De Luxe lol. I do have the base SSB model as well, but the knobs are basically shot and seized. Meant to replace them and get that one back up and working. I got both of them I think in 2021? Cheap on eBay at the time.

I've noticed something I think is strange. Maybe I'm very late to the party, or maybe it's something new. BUT, I've noticed that voice reception and signal strength is much better on the higher channels than the lowers. Channels 1 thru about 27 or so are very difficult to make voice contact, and hard to hear. The upper channels seem to be clean and clear, even at the same noise floor level. Proved it tonight during local chat, and my suspicions were right. We usually use 14am (27.125) for local chat. Could barely hear anyone. Moved to 32 and everyone was loud and clear. All the other guys noticed it, too, after I brought it up. This is why I can never make contacts on 16. Anyone else notice this?

Have you checked your SWRs and resonance?

Have you checked your SWRs and resonance?
I can go from 26.200 to 28.100 and be at 1.3:1 on both ends. Never checked resonance cuz I won't buy an analyzer I'll use once. When they start making one that costs about 40 bux I'll grab one. LOL But now that I noticed this and passed it around to the locals, they concur.

So let's make this interesting. The North Shore CB Radio Club is a sideband club located in NE, Ohio, Western PA, Western NY, and Ontario Canada. We were residing on channel 33 LSB for almost 3 years, but for some reason that channel gets really early skip from Portugal, Fax/Data transmissions, Spanish speaking individuals with the most annoying roger beeps, and then Tuscon, Arizona on AM running high power stations in the evening complaining about us sidebanders.

We starting discussing changing channels like to 34 or 40 or something. I told the club that we are sidebanders and back in the 23 channel radio days channel 16 was the place. We took a vote and we are officially moved to 16 LSB (27.155) and we are happy.

Early morning is quiet during the club members commutes at least until 9:00 AM. Afternoon to early evening is impossible just like any other channel with bleedover and Spanish speaking people. Late evening and all night long we can enjoy talking to each other and every now and then we get another 16 LSB skip contact. We even have club members breaking out their old 23 channel SSB radios for testing!

Long Live 16 LSB

I just got off lower 16 tonight. I'm 713 in Northern Minnesota; I was talking with a guy in West Virgina. There were some other stations, coming in, but were down in the weeds. I could not get any unit numbers. I do believe it's starting to come back. My advice is to keep trying, the more people that we get on their it will come back for sure.
