ok now that my 2000 gtl and 148 gtl side mike are back working again bought them use with issues put both back to stock with that said i need a recommendation on a non amplified desk or handheld microphone that would give me that big radio sound on transmit. as of now, all I have is the stock cobra coffin mike

Sorry to post this again but this made my coffin mic sound spectacular. I think you can put damn near any crapola non amplified mic on this (and i have) and it will sound great. I have a home modified D104 on it now and i still get random people tell me im very loud but also very clear and want to know what mic im using.

A couiple of locals use the ur6qw,

my buddys 706mk2g with urq blew his ic7000 with and without the usa guys mic mods so far into the weeds he sold the 7000 within a week.
most locals me included like the sound of that setup better than his ic7600 & 2x 991a's.

I don't like noise gates thumping in and out but that one sort of works,
not as good a downward expander but it gets rid of the wife & kids & tv without sounding too thumpy.

probably wont measure well but sounds ok if your not looking for wideband audio..

another buddy has the older version without noise gate, he never was able to get a good sound from it, no idea why.

CB mics in general are overpriced crap. You can get a decent studio or stage mic and a boom for less than some people have wrapped up in a D104. Get a thumb switch or foot pedal to key the radio and you're golden.

Screw those troublesome high z crystal elements.
I found a dynamic hand mic i got good reports with and harvested the element. Luckily it barely fit in the d104 head. I paid $115 for the UG8 stand which was NIB with a brand new d104 head in the original moisture proof bag. The head i rebuilt is a spare i had that had a bad element. I still have the new one put away.

Yep. Screw 'em! I have a couple here that are unamplified. One works OK with the old Johnson transmitters but I built the external modulator and never looked back. Some people around here "collect" d104s and have a fortune tied up in them. I use a RE27ND on everything but my 2m/440 rig.

A friend down the street used to make these boards but he hasn't been on the air in a few years. http://d104.net/
