Rewired the back of the radio cabinet

This view is of the back of my shelving with the unit face down (horizontal). When installed, the panel shown of this shelving unit is vertical. The radio body and filters are hidden from view behind the unit:

Need the best balun to get the common modes off the exterior shield of you coaxial feed line? Here you go:

The radio body is a Kenwood TS-480hx. There is a separate control head - but i control the radio with my computer.

The low pass filters are Bencher YA1 x2 (one for each antenna output), the Isolation filter is a Balun Designs #1115d for my coax antenna - the other antenna has 600 ohm ladder line with an external to the shack 4:1 balun.

In a nutshell, the Kenwood is a 6m-160m rig. The HX model that I have has a 4 transistor 200 watt power section.

Doesn't the Bencher YA-1 cut off at 30Mhz? If so, isn't that a problem on 6m? Nice, clean setup, BTW.

they sure will. I have a B&W filter which is basically the same as the YA-1 and cuts off at 30-32 MHz with 70 dB attenuation. I forgot about it and hooked it to the output of my FT-857 which uses the same RF out port for HF and 6m. I could not understand why I could not hear the local 6m repeater which is usually 30/9 or so. Then it hit me about the LPF inline. I removed it and the band came alive. As for TX'ing thru it I only tried a few times briefly to trigger the repeater and then i realised what was wrong. Never thought to look at the SWR on 6m when it was inline.

Great point on the 6 meters and the LP filter. I haven't gotten the 6m meter bug yet but that of course is subject to change. I will try to remember to take it out oif line if I move to 6 meters.

You can find low pass filters that cut off at 54mhz. Then you won't have to worry about it.

Hey Lazy bones, How do you like your 480? Im looking at one for the mobile to use 10-80 and play a little on 11 with it. Does it sound decent on AM? What carrier and peak do you see? Also does it show sighns of negative carrier shift on AM where the radio "swings" backwards?

Great looking setup by the way!! If I like the rig in the mobile I might need one for in the house also since my ft101 takes up alot of real estate on my desk and I dont have room for another full size base...this would be perfect!
