The 959's set at a 1 1/2 watt deadkey. She'll swing 15-18 watts at that setting.

Thanks for the help. Now I need to find out what a low pass filter does.

I wonder if the chokes were added what would that do to performance wise?

Just got mine today in a trade. Got to figure what service it's wired for.

If the short out plug is pushed down then its converted,,if not push it down and hammer the chicken band a little lol...they are a pretty clean throw away amp,,but heck you can fix it easy too if your handy!

Apparently since low pass section is missing my guess is that this amp is configured for 26-28 MHz operation. C5 and c6 is missing. I think it came without a shorting plug.

Yes give it a try..my last one came ready to roll on 27MHz.got it from epay..also the new 200 p bipolar version did not need to be converted that I have sen.

I got the KL203 up and running on my base station setup. I took the MFJ-971 out of the circuit and put my NOS/NIB Royce power/swr meter in line. Switched on the KL203,set the 959's RF power to read a 30 watt deadkey on the Royce. My brother said I my signal went up 1 3/4's of a S-Unit. If I had a good power meter that shows RMS and PEP then I could see what it's doing. The Royce power meter is showing it to be swinging backwards. I tried it on SSB. Unfortunately my Pyramid 14 amp power supply can't keep up. I get severe dimming on my radio's lights.

A cb base station operator 25 miles away came back to me and said my audio is louder.

With a KL203 run it with an AM dead key of 1 watt and 10-18 peak watts. I would also suggest a fan. There are plenty who have probably run more into them but they don't last if you do.

Okay. I just need an accurate watt meter that will show rms and pep but I can make do with the Royce. Since swr into my antenna system isn't as low as dummy load,I'll need to re-adjust the radio' low deadkey.

A pic of my KL-203 in my Tacoma. It really helps out living in the mountains and the unforgiving skip lol. The radio is a Cobra 29LTD Classic I think from the 90"s and a real Turner Telex RK-56 I painted the grill "was black" silver for some looks?

The early AM light and a iCrap camera leave an undesirable quality picture. But you get the idea. '99 Tacoma 5 speed and all is out of the way.

I miss my 98 Tacoma, what a truck, it had over 230,000 miles on it and all was stock except for the alternator. 4x4 worked flawlessly and ac even worked well. Sadly I sold it to help my sister with a down payment for her house. Btw, nice install, looks nice man, great job and I love the ash tray mod. Kudos my man. God bless.

Those are some nice installs! However,the ashtray install,you might want to rethink that. The literature that comes with car stereo amps all say not to mount the amp upside down because the heat dissipation will feed back into the amp. Maybe a fan inside the dash blowing out accord the heat fins will offset that tendency. Ok. I figured out my MFJ-971's range scale selection switch and meter. With a 1 1/2 watt deadkey,my 203 keys 40 watts and swings to 100 watts pep with me talking,higher if whistling. Obviously I didn't have something wired right or the hot and negative leads on the power supply may have been touching. On another note,I can't get the SSB meter readings to go as high watt wise unless I turn my 959's rf power all the way up and I use full mic gain. Anybody care to comment on this?
Note: I had DTB tune my 959's SSB tuned to only do 12 watts pep. Overall,I have no more moderate/severe dimming of meter lights. Also,I have my 971 in line as to provide a good swr match for the amp and radio.

Notice the six blowers in the amp rack. They are controlled by a two speed temp computer I assembled with a dedicated amp thermostat in case that fails.

LiL Yeshua: I'm glad to hear they do that much. Mine literally makes the difference between contact and no contact. In these NY mountains you can talk 50 miles in one direction and 1/2 mile the other way and it seems we are always in "the other way" lol My Tacoma is also a 1999 TRD. I like the mod brake weight but my 6 cd player and am fm music radio has got to stay wear it is. People do rest their left leg on my CB but they never jam their leg on it..The Cobra 29LTD Classic is a big radio..It's not like the old days with the newer vehicles you really got to use your imagination to add anything to them.

It doesn't stay on long enough to get hot. Make a contact when conditions are good then it's off.
